Boys' Athlete of the Year

Jason Cook, Brentsville, Senior

* Won the Virginia AA, Region II and Northwestern District discus championships as well as the region and district shot put titles. AA runner-up in the shot put.

* His discus throw of 172 feet 10 inches at the Obie Calhoun Invitational was the best in the Washington area this season.

* Will compete at East Carolina University.

Boys' Coach of the Year

Lance Sherrill, Brentsville

* Tigers finished third at the Virginia AA championships and second at both the Northwestern District and Region II meets. The Tigers also captured second at the Obie Calhoun Invitational and third at the Victor Cahoon Invitational.

* Tigers' girls finished second in region and tied for third at state meet.

Girls' Athlete of the Year

Kharya Brown, Potomac, Junior

* All-Met performer was state runner-up in the 100-meter dash (11.95 seconds) and third in the 200, and she ran anchor leg of Panthers' 4x100 relay that finished second.

* Northwestern Region and Cedar Run District champion in the 100, 200 and long jump. Also won district title in the 400.

Girls' Coach of the Year

John Rock, Forest Park

* In first season as head coach, led Bruins to Cardinal District and Northwestern Region championships and a second-place finish at Potomac's Twilight Invitational.

* Forest Park boys finished fourth at region meet, the top AAA finish by a Prince William team.

Brentsville's Jason Cook won the Region II and Northwestern District shot put championships.Potomac All-Met Kharya Brown was the state runner-up in the 100-meter dash in 11.95 seconds. Coach John Rock led Bruins girls to region title.
