Player of the Year

Mike Giarrizzi, Potomac, Senior

* All-Met center fielder batted .411 with 26 runs, 19 RBI, 17 walks and 12 steals and was named player of the year in the Cedar Run District and Northwestern Region.

* Went 7-0 with a 1.17 ERA, with 70 strikeouts and six walks in 48 innings for 21-3 team. Pitched no-hitter in district championship game.

* Will play at Christopher Newport University.

Coach of the Year

Jay Burkhart, Gar-Field

* Second-year coach led Indians to 17-5 record and area-best third straight Northwestern Region tournament appearance.

* Team won Cardinal District regular season and tournament titles, each for the first time since 1997.

First Team

P John Adams, Potomac, Sr. -- Repeat All-Extra right-hander and first-team all-region pick went 8-0 with five saves. Posted a 0.56 ERA with 59 strikeouts in 62 innings. Will attend Louisburg (N.C.) Junior College.

P Eddie West, Gar-Field, Soph. -- Left-hander went 7-2 with a save and 1.96 ERA, with 79 strikeouts in 561/3 innings for Cardinal District champions.

C Jonathan Colantuoni, Hylton, Jr. -- Led region semifinalists with .369 batting average; also posted .988 fielding percentage and drew 11 walks.

C Antonio Concepcion, Woodbridge, Sr. -- Steady backstop batted .381 and scored 17 runs. Will play at George Mason University.

IF Jorge Laboy, Hylton, Sr. -- Repeat All-Extra shortstop and Cardinal District player of the year batted .368 with 12 RBI; also struck out 83 batters in 64 innings in posting a 2.08 ERA with six complete games. Will play at University of Virginia-Wise.

IF Brandon Maupin, Potomac, Jr. -- All-region first baseman batted .431 with 31 RBI, 10 doubles and 6 homers. Also went 3-1 with a 2.33 ERA.

IF Marcus Nalls, Gar-Field, Sr. -- All-region third baseman hit .417 with 11 extra-base hits, including four homers, and 23 RBI. Also went 7-2 with a save and 0.92 ERA, with 70 strikeouts and 6 walks in 53 innings. Will play at Frostburg State.

IF Bobby Potter, Potomac, Jr. -- Repeat All-Extra selection batted .333, stole 25 bases and scored 23 runs for Cedar Run District champions.

IF Zach Terrell, Manassas Park, Jr. -- Three-time All-Extra, a shortstop, was Bull Run District player of the year with .547 batting average, .984 slugging percentage, 10 doubles, 3 triples, 5 homers, 30 runs, 17 RBI, 17 steals and 13 walks, 9 intentionally -- and no strikeouts. Posted 0.88 ERA in 40 innings pitched.

DH Ken Morris, Osbourn, Jr. -- Batted .406 with 8 doubles, 4 home runs and 27 RBI.

UT Garrett Smith, Stonewall Jackson, Jr. -- Repeat All-Extra pick went 7-3 with a 2.39 ERA and batted .274 with 10 RBI for Northwestern Region semifinalists.
