Deadly hit-and-run: A 52-year-old Landover woman was struck and killed as she tried to cross a busy Prince George's County road late Sunday, and authorities were searching yesterday for the vehicle's driver, who they said fled the scene.

Jeanear Cunningham, of the 7600 block of Oxman Drive, was walking across Martin Luther King Highway, near Landover Road, about 9:15 p.m. when she was hit by a dark-colored SUV, possibly a Ford Expedition, said Cpl. Diane Richardson, a police spokeswoman. Cunningham was not in a crosswalk, Richardson said.

* A 25-year-old man was fatally shot in Southwest Washington early yesterday, D.C. police said. Officers found Jamal L. Hull on the ground in the 1500 block of First Street about 2:20 a.m. Hull, of the 1500 block of Kenilworth Avenue NE, was shot in the chest.

* D.C. police yesterday identified a man who was found fatally shot in Southeast Washington on Friday morning as Timothy Lee Bingham, 26. The Suitland resident was found dead in a car about 4:40 a.m. Friday in the 4500 block of Hillside Road.


Two men sought: Fairfax County police said yesterday that they are searching for two men, one suspected of sexual battery in the Oakton area and the other suspected of sexual assault in the Falls Church area.

About 4:30 a.m. Saturday, a 19-year-old woman was in the laundry room of an Oakton area apartment building in the 3300 block of Willow Crescent Drive when a man assaulted her, police said. She broke free and fled the building without being physically injured.

About 1:30 a.m. Sunday, a 40-year-old woman was walking in the 7200 block of Parkwood Court when a man grabbed her and forced her into an apartment building, threatening her with a large knife. Sex offender charged: An Arlington man who is a convicted sex offender was arrested and charged two weeks ago with one count of carnal knowledge of a child, Arlington County police spokesman Matt Martin said.

Thomas R. Koucky, 41, allegedly had inappropriate sexual contact with a teenage boy for about two years, from 2001 to 2003, Martin said.

Koucky, who was convicted of a sex crime in Maryland, has been released on $3,000 bond. Anyone with information about Koucky's contact with children can call Crime Solvers anonymously at 800-673-2777.

Robbery suspect arrested: A 43-year-old man suspected in a string of convenience store and gas station robberies in Loudoun and Fairfax counties was arrested Sunday, police said.

Will Cater, 43, allegedly robbed six stations and stores, striking clerks at each location with an unknown blunt object, said Mary Mulrenan, spokeswoman for Fairfax County police. Police arrested Cater after getting a tip about his whereabouts.
