Folk Art at ARTFX

Painter Jimmy Reynolds never considered himself a folk artist. The Wilmington College graduate started painting more than 20 years ago and modeled his work after neo-medieval story paintings. But after decades of showing his acrylics painted on pine and plywood, Reynolds found that the folk art label stuck -- and he's grateful. Folk art, Reynolds says, is accessible. "I like art for the people," he said. "I want people to relate to my art." Reynolds will show 15 of his latest works all month at ARTFX gallery in Annapolis. The exhibit includes historical and contemporary scenes of communities such as Baltimore, Sudlersville and Chincoteague, Va., on pine board, plywood and oak panels. He is one of the few folk artists living in Queen Anne's County and the first folk artist to show work at ARTFX. 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday, 1-6 p.m. Sunday, through July 30. Noon-3 p.m. Sunday, artist reception. ARTFX, 45 West St., Annapolis. Free. 410-990-4540 or www.geocities.com/artfx_in_annapolis.
