Artist Grants Available

Artists have until July 29 to apply for Individual Artist Awards from the Maryland State Arts Council. The council gives annual grants to visual and performance artists through an anonymous and competitive process.

This year the council will award grants of $1,000, $3,000 and $6,000 for choreography, music composition, playwriting, poetry, crafts, photography, installation art and sculpture. Maryland artists 18 and older may submit an application and samples of works created after July 29, 2001, to the Maryland State Arts Council, 175 W. Ostend St., Suite E, Baltimore, Md., 21230. Sponsors Sought for Event

Hospice of the Chesapeake and the Bank of Glen Burnie are seeking individual and corporate sponsors for the bank's 14th annual charity golf tournament Sept. 13 at South River Golf Links, 3541 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater.

Proceeds from the tournament will support Hospice of the Chesapeake, a nonprofit organization that provides hospice and bereavement care services for residents of Anne Arundel and Prince George's counties.

Corporations may donate up to $500. Individuals may make $100 "tee level" donations or $250 "hospitality" donations. Corporations and individuals who sponsor the tournament will receive registration discounts and acknowledgment during the tournament awards ceremony. Their names will also be included in all tournament brochures, programs and registration materials.

Corporate and "tee" sponsors will also receive "tee" signs. Each sign will be engraved with a sponsor's name and will be placed at one of the 18 holes on the course. Pledges must be made by Sept. 3.

Registration will be at 8 a.m. the day of the tournament. The tournament begins at 8:45 a.m. For more information, call the Bank of Glen Burnie at 410-768-8857.

Fourth of July Ceremony

The Military Officers Association, which includes officers from all service branches, will hold a short ceremony in honor of Independence Day at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. John's College, 60 College Ave., Annapolis.

During the ceremony, retired officers will tap the St. John's College replica of the Liberty Bell 13 times in honor of the 13 original Colonies. The ceremony will include members of the Annapolis High School Junior ROTC. For more information, call the college at 443-716-4011.
