Pit Bull Puppy Freed From Tree
LANDOVER, Allendale Cir., 7600 block, June 28. A resident reported that two pit bull puppies were tied to a tree in a back yard without water or shelter. An animal control officer found an approximately 4-month-old puppy tied to a tree in such a way that its blood flow was restricted and its head was swollen to twice its normal size. The second puppy was reportedly beaten to death, but was not found. The tied puppy was treated at an emergency animal hospital, then taken to the shelter. The suspected-cruelty investigation was continuing.
Neglected Goats Reported
ACCOKEEK, Clinton Dr., 17600 block, June 28. In response to a report of cruelty to animals, an animal control officer found nearly 30 goats, some of which were dead. Others were limping and several appeared to be underweight. Some of the goats were taken to the shelter. An investigation regarding suspected cruelty was continuing.
Dog Impounded During Eviction
LANDOVER HILLS, 68th Pl., 4400 block, June 24. An animal control officer picked up an approximately 3-month-old tan male mastiff from an apartment complex. The dog was wearing a harness but no ID, and had no source of water or shelter. Someone in the complex's rental office told the officer that the tenant who lived with the dog was being evicted. The officer took the dog to the shelter. It was later returned to its owner.
Injured Bird Euthanized
FORT WASHINGTON, Harbour Cir., 12300 block, June 28. A resident had placed inside a box a black bird that she thought was injured. An animal control officer took the bird to the shelter, where it was later euthanized.
Bat Invades Home
OXON HILL, Bock Ter., 6500 block, June 28. A resident reported finding a bat in her home, the third one since the previous day. An animal control officer took it to the shelter for testing.
Stray Dogs Taken to Shelter
CAPITOL HEIGHTS, Emo St., 5000 block, June 28. A 4-year-old male blond and white mixed sheepdog in poor condition and with a wound to its front leg was picked up by an animal control officer and taken to the shelter to be claimed by its owner.
BOWIE, Alstead Lane, 2300 block, June 28. A resident held a stray Jack Russell terrier wearing an Anne Arundel County tag, but was unable to reach Anne Arundel County Animal Control. He called Prince George's County Animal Management; a Prince George's animal control officer picked up the approximately 6-year-old, brown and white spayed female. It was wearing a collar but had no ID tags. The dog was returned to its owner.
CAPITOL HEIGHTS, Elfin Ave., 600 block, June 28. A resident put a stray puppy in a cage until it could be picked up by Animal Management. An animal control officer picked up the approximately 5-month-old male mixed brown Chow Chow, which was wearing a collar but no ID tags. It was taken to the shelter to be claimed by an owner.
