Driving Hot Spots
Here is a selection of road advisories. Weather and equipment availability can affect timing.
1. Springfield interchange:
Two or more lanes might be closed from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and from 9 a.m. to noon Fridays.
2. Burke Lake Road:
Road closed through Sept. 5 between Windward and Wilmington drives.
3. Capital Beltway (inner loop):
Two right lanes closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. daily between River Road and Wisconsin Avenue.
4. Capital Beltway (both loops):
Some lanes closed from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily between the Interstate 270 spur and Fernwood Road.
5. Capital Beltway (inner loop):
Three left lanes closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Tuesday through Thursday from Livingston Road to the Baltimore-Washington Parkway.
6. Annapolis Road:
Two left lanes closed from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. daily from 65th Avenue to Riverdale Road.
7. Route 202:
Two left lanes closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily from Route 450 to Route 50.
8. Central Avenue:
Three left eastbound lanes closed from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. daily from Route 202 to Route 193.
9. Capital Beltway (inner loop):
Two left lanes closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily from Route 50 to Interstate 295.
10. Capital Beltway (inner loop):
Two left lanes closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Thursday from I-295 to Livingston Road.
11. Capital Beltway (outer loop):
Two left lanes closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Thursday from the Wilson Bridge to Bald Eagle Road.
12. Fort Hunt Road:
Closed Monday through July 26 from Huntington Avenue to Route 1.
13. Route 1 (north):
Ramp to Wilson Bridge/Capital Beltway outer loop closed Saturday.
Metro: A six-level, 1,500-space parking facility has opened at the Grosvenor-Strathmore Station.
Tip of the Week
Heat restrictions go into effect on the commuter train lines when temperatures rise. Heat causes welded rails to expand, which can create kinks in the track. When a heat restriction is announced, passenger trains must travel 20 mph less than the speed limit.
