Man shot: Montgomery County police detectives are investigating a streetside shooting in Gaithersburg on Sunday night that sent a 23-year-old Germantown man to the hospital, authorities said.
Shortly before 9:30 p.m., police said, the man was walking with friends near Montgomery Village Avenue and Duffer Way when two men approached and shot him several times. He was treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries at a hospital. His name was not released.
Car found: A Ford Crown Victoria stolen during a home robbery in Accokeek on Sunday was found early yesterday near Oxon Hill High School, Prince George's County police said.
Cpl. Robert Clark, a police spokesman, said the sedan was found about 1:30 a.m. in the 700 block of Leyte Place in Oxon Hill. He said no arrests were made in connection with the vehicle theft or the home invasion, which left a 90-year-old man with minor injuries. Five others were also held hostage, including the man's daughter, son-in-law, two teenage grandchildren and a neighbor.
Teen indicted: A 17-year-old Ashburn boy was indicted yesterday on a charge of involuntary manslaughter in the March fatal shooting of his 15-year-old friend and former classmate, Loudoun County's top prosecutor said.
Matthew J. Lathram allegedly shot Donald Nicholas Shomaker on March 22 while the two were in the basement of Lathram's home. Lathram has agreed to plead guilty to involuntary manslaughter in connection with the shooting, which authorities have concluded was accidental, according to prosecutors and Lathram's attorney.
Lathram also was indicted on several drug and weapons charges, to which prosecutors say he also has agreed to plead guilty, including possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, possession of a sawed-off shotgun and possession of a firearm while in possession of illegal drugs, according to Loudoun County Commonwealth's Attorney James E. Plowman.
