Alderman Sets Up Web Site

Annapolis Alderman Josh Cohen (D-Ward 8) has started a Web site intended to enhance services for Eastport residents.

Billed as an "online office," the site -- www.joshcohen.org -- includes contact information for Cohen and answers to frequently asked questions.

Eastport residents may also add their names to an e-mail listserv to get information about community meetings, events and legislation that could affect their area.

Blacksmith to Lead Class

Kinder Farm Park, 1001 Kinder Farm Park Rd., Millersville, is offering a basic blacksmithing class led by the park's resident blacksmith, Terry Steel, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

The class is limited to eight participants, and registration is required. The cost is $100.

Volleyball Players Sought

The U.S. Youth Volleyball League is looking for children 8 to 14 to participate in its eight-week fall session starting Sept. 15.

Participants will practice from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays and play in tournaments from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturdays at Chesapeake High School, 4798 Mountain Rd., Pasadena. Registration for the league costs $95 and is open to boys and girls.

'Ambassador' Contest Open

Teens have until July 31 to register for the Anne Arundel County Fair Ambassador contest, which will be held Sept. 15 at the fairgrounds, 1450 General's Hwy., Crownsville.

The contest is open to male and female contestants ages 16 to 20. Scholarships are given to first-, second- and third-place winners. The top winner will also represent the fair throughout the year.

Swim Event to Aid Charity

The Bay Ridge Marlins Swim Team, a 152-member competitive team for children 5 to 16, will host a charity swimathon from 1 p.m. Saturday to 1 p.m. Sunday at the Bay Ridge Pool on Herndon Avenue in Annapolis. Proceeds from the event will support Johns Hopkins Pediatric Oncology Friends, a volunteer organization that raises money for cancer research. This year Oncology Friends will give funds to the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center, a Johns Hopkins hospital cancer care and research center that is working on cures for childhood cancers. The Annapolis Breakfast Club, a group of adult long-distance swimmers, will also participate in the swimathon.
