Suspect found dead: A Prince George's County man who police said was the main suspect in a fatal shooting this month in Temple Hills was found dead in his vehicle after apparently shooting himself, police said yesterday.

Police said Darrell J. Jackson, 26, of the 3500 block of Orme Drive in Temple Hills, was found July 9 in his Toyota Camry in Charles County.

County police had not publicized their search for Jackson, whom they came to consider a suspect July 8. Jackson had not been charged in the slaying, police said.

Robert D. Jenkins, 22, was killed July 5 after he confronted the driver of a vehicle that had rear-ended his girlfriend's car.

Police said ballistics tests on the handgun used in the apparent suicide concluded that it was the same weapon used to shoot Jenkins, who lived in Prince George's.

Suspect hangs himself: A 37-year-old man hanged himself early yesterday in the holding cell of a D.C. police station house, authorities said.

The man, whose name was not released pending notification of relatives, was pulled over by uniformed Secret Service agents about 1:40 a.m. in the 1700 block of Massachusetts Avenue NW.

The driver did not have a valid permit and had several bags of crack cocaine in his Mazda Miata, police said.

The man was taken to the D.C. police department's 3rd District Station for processing and put in a holding cell, where he was found unconscious about 4:10 a.m., police said.

He apparently hanged himself by tying his socks to a bar in the cell, police said.

Embezzlement sentence: A 51-year-old Northeast Washington woman was sentenced yesterday in U.S. District Court in Washington to one year and one day in prison and ordered to pay $100,899 in restitution for embezzling money from a nonprofit agency she headed.

Carmelita T. Edwards, former executive director of Housing Counseling Services in the District, embezzled more than $100,000 from the agency between 1999 and January 2003, authorities said.
