St. Mary's County Superintendent of Schools Patricia M. Richardson announced two administrative appointments this week. Both were approved last week by the Board of Education.

* Stephen Messenger was named assistant principal at Green Holly Elementary School. Messenger joined the school system in 2002 as a coordinator in the Department of Special Education. Since that time, he has also served as an adjunct faculty member at the College of Notre Dame and the College of Southern Maryland. Before coming to St. Mary's he taught English, special education and English as a Second Language classes in Brownsville, Tex., and served as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Texas-Brownsville. Messenger has a doctorate degree in administration and supervision from the University of Houston, a master's in reading from Pan American University and a bachelor's in English from Knox College.

* Luchrisha Flowers was named assistant principal at Lexington Park Elementary School, where she previously served as a fourth-grade classroom teacher. In addition to her classroom responsibilities at Lexington Park, Flowers has served as lead teacher in the summer reading and math academy. Before joining the school system in 2000, she was a Title I mathematics specialist and a third/fourth grade classroom teacher in St. Louis. Flowers, who is completing a master's degree in leadership in teaching, administration and supervision with the College of Notre Dame, earned her bachelor's degree in elementary education from North Carolina A&T University.
