Cat Bites Hand That Treats It
SILVER SPRING, Bel Pre Rd., 3700 block, July 5. A veterinarian's assistant was bitten on the hand while treating a cat. The assistant was taken to a hospital for treatment, and the Animal Services Division was notified about the incident. The next day, an animal services officer instructed the cat's owner to quarantine the animal at home for 10 days to be watched for symptoms of rabies. The cat was current on its rabies vaccination.
2 Cats Are Left Untended
TAKOMA PARK, Carroll Ave., 7000 block, July 8. A property manager had not seen a tenant for several days and noticed a cat in the window of the apartment. The manager entered the unit and found two cats locked in separate rooms. The cats were in good health, but their drinking water and food were stale and dirty. An animal services officer arrived, posted a notice on the apartment door notifying the owner that the cats were being removed and took the cats to the shelter. The case was continuing.
Man Releases Caged Cockatiels
BETHESDA, Sangamore Rd., 4000 block, July 8. A woman noticed a man walking toward a pet store with three cockatiels in a bird cage and then releasing the birds into the air. The man left the area, and the woman ran to the pet store to report the incident.
An employee from the pet store caught two of the birds, but the third one escaped. A Humane Society driver arrived and picked up the two birds from the pet store and took them to the shelter. The third cockatiel was still at large.
Pets Available for Adoption
Dogs, cats and other pets will be available for adoption through the Montgomery County Humane Society Mobile Adoption Unit, which is scheduled to visit the following location.
