Calvert County

* Following are the county results of an Elementary Mathematics Challenge competition sponsored by the Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative, with fourth- and fifth-grade teams from the county competing against each other. Fourth grade: first place, Mount Harmony; second, Dowell; third, Huntingtown; fourth, Appeal; and fifth, Mutual. Fifth grade: first place, Mutual; second, Mount Harmony; third, Huntingtown; fourth, Beach; and fifth, Calvert.

* Timothy Bohannon, Mount Harmony elementary fifth-grader, tied for first place in the Individual Contest of the Elementary Mathematics Challenge competition. More than 500 students from 47 public and private schools in Southern Maryland competed.

Charles County

* Following are the county results of the Elementary Mathematics Challenge competition: Fourth grade: first place, William B. Wade; second, Berry; third (tie), Walter J. Mitchell and Dr. James Craik. From the fifth grade: first place, Wade; second, J.P. Ryon; third, Craik; fourth, Berry; and fifth, Mary H. Matula.

* Michael Bradford, fifth-grader at Mary H. Matula, earned third-place honors in the Individual Contest of the Elementary Mathematics Challenge competition

St. Mary's County

* Following are the county results of an Elementary Mathematics Challenge competition. Fourth grade: first place, Benjamin Banneker; second, Hollywood; third, Town Creek; fourth, Dynard; and fifth, Leonardtown. From the fifth grade: first place, Town Creek; second, Hollywood; third, Banneker; fourth, Leonardtown; and fifth, Green Holly.

* Trey Bergen, Banneker fourth-grader, placed third in the Individual Contest of the Elementary Mathematics Challenge competition.

* Calvin Chi, Leonardtown fourth-grader, placed first in the Individual Contest of the Elementary Mathematics Challenge competition.
