The Ladies Board of Loudoun Hospital Center has awarded $45,000 in nursing scholarships to Loudoun residents and hospital employees.
Ten students entering their second year, or clinical phase, of the licensed practical nurse program at Monroe Technology Center each received $1,000. Ten previous recipients were awarded additional scholarships to continue their nursing education.
Twelve new recipients received from $800 to $3,000 each.
Five of them will be working on accelerated degrees in nursing at Shenandoah or George Mason universities.
They are: hospital employees Kerry Peterson of Leesburg, Vel Schlachter of Summit Point, W.Va., Elizabeth Bushrod of Winchester, Raihana Noorzad, a continuing student at the University of Phoenix, and Colleen Pearson of Ashburn; Nancy Markley of Lovettsville, who has worked in school clinics in the Loudoun County school system for nine years; Shannon Whitson of Philomont; Phyllies Gagnon of Ashburn; Christin Autrey and Anne Walters of Leesburg; Luis Pedemonte of Sterling; and Eleanor Biraben of Purcellville, a June graduate of Loudoun Valley High School.
Northern Virginia Community College has hired John T. Dever as executive vice president effective Monday. Dever has been vice president for academic and student affairs at Tidewater Community College. He holds a bachelor's degree from what is now Bellarmine University in Louisville, a master's degree in English from the University of Kentucky and a doctorate in English literature from the University of Virginia.
