Driving Hot Spots

Here is a selection of road advisories. Weather and equipment availability can affect timing.

1. Springfield Interchange:

One lane on the Capital Beltway (inner loop) after the exit for Interstate 395 north closed for about 18 months. Other lane closures 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 9 a.m. to noon Fridays.

2. Burke Lake Road:

Road closed between Windward and Wilmington drives through Sept. 5 .

3. Route 1 Alternate:

Lane closures 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily at the Anacostia River.

4. Suitland Parkway:

Lane closures 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Wednesday through Aug. 25 at Southern Avenue.

5. Capital Beltway (both loops):

Some lanes closed 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily between the Interstate 270 spur and Fernwood Road.

6. River Road:

Lane closures and flagging operation 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday at Piney Meetinghouse Road.

7. Route 410 Eastbound:

Right lane closed 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday between Connecticut Avenue and Edge Vale Street.

8. Georgia Avenue:

Left southbound lane and right northbound lane closed 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday between Belvedere Boulevard and Tilton Drive.

9. Capital Beltway (inner loop):

Left lane closed 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Friday at Good Luck Road.

10. Capital Beltway (outer loop):

Two left lanes closed 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Thursday from the Wilson Bridge to Bald Eagle Road.

11. Capital Beltway (inner loop):

Two left lanes closed 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Thursday from Livingston Road to I-295.

12. Route 1 (South):

Merge lane from Beltway (outer loop) closed through Aug. 31.

Transit Update

METRO: Construction will begin soon at the King Street Station. Improvements will include expanding the mezzanine and platform, building an elevated walkway across King Street to Cameron Street and Commonwealth Avenue, installing two new elevators, a new street-level entrance, station manager kiosk and Farecard machines.

Tip of the Week

AAA recommends checking the following before driving off for summer vacation: radiator and coolant, tires, coolant hoses, oil, belts, battery and air and fuel filters.
