ESL & Immigrant Ministries: Teach English as a second language to adults in day or night classes. Training begins this month; classes start in September. 703-841-0292, Ext. 6, or

Lost Dog & Cat Rescue Foundation: Foster rescued dogs and cats until they find permanent homes, and handle dogs and cats at weekend adoption events. Must be at least 14 years old; those younger than 17 must be accompanied by an adult. Contact

Opportunities, Alternatives & Resources of Fairfax County: Instructors needed to teach parenting, employment skills, financial planning and conflict resolution to offenders in the Loudoun County Work Release Center. Required two-day training on Sept. 18 and 25. 703-246-3033.

CrisisLink: Staff local and national suicide and crisis hotline. Must be 18 or older and commit to three hours a week; required 45-hour training begins in September. 703-527-6016.

Ashburn Volunteer Fire and Rescue: Men and women 16 and older needed for firefighting and to serve as paramedics in two Ashburn stations. Training is provided; may receive tax benefits. Those ages 14-20 who have completed eighth grade can join the Explorers, who train in firefighting and help support the squad. 703-729-0006.

Loudoun Summer Music Fest: Sell tickets, pour beverages and help bands and vendors at Sunday evening outdoor performances. Must sign release and be 21 or older. 703-433-2631 or
