John Meaney, business development vice president for BankAnnapolis, was appointed recently to the boards of Severna Park's Community Center and the Parole Rotary Club.

A Severna Park resident, Meaney will serve on the executive board of the Community Center, a recreation center that offers activities for children and teens in the Severna Park area. He will be secretary of the Rotary Club, a group for businesspeople and professionals that provides scholarships to Anne Arundel County students and grants to organizations in the county.

The Baltimore/Washington Corridor Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a sales technique workshop from 8:15 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. It will include tips on how to get business referrals. Tickets cost $20 for nonmembers. Members can attend free.

The chamber will also hold an orientation meeting for those who are new to the chamber from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. next Thursday. The meeting will focus on the benefits of Chamber of Commerce membership, networking and the best ways to promote businesses and business ideas.
