Running

The Annapolis Striders are sponsoring a 24-hour relay race Aug. 14-15 on the track at Annapolis High School.

Male, female and mixed 10-runner teams will run consecutively for 24 hours, with each runner logging a mile at a time. The team that runs the most miles will win the race. Award categories include open, coed, youngest, oldest, military, public safety and corporate. Details, rules and registration information are posted at www.annapolisstriders.org.

The first 24-Hour Relay was conducted in the 1960s. Military units and security agencies participated in the early years. With the advent of the running boom in the 1970s and '80s, the event moved to Fort George G. Meade. Howard County high schools were the site of the races in the '90s. The race resumes this year after a nine-year hiatus.
