Middleburg Bank Expands

Middleburg Bank plans to open a full-service financial center in the Spectrum Center in Reston, near Reston Town Center, in November and has purchased property in Warrenton and Sterling, where it plans to open branches in 2005. The bank said it is also seeking locations in Gainesville and Chantilly.

The expansions are being financed through proceeds from a $5 million issuance of trust preferred securities in December.

Small-Business Seminars

The Loudoun County Small Business Center will hold the following seminars:

* "Maximize Earnings Through Pricing and Profitability Analysis," 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Aug. 19, led by William Cardine, the owner of WJC Accounting Services and a retired professor and head of the accounting department at Strayer University's Loudoun campus. * "Bookkeeping and Taxation for Home-Based Businesses," 6-8:30 p.m. Aug. 24, led by Mark Turbyfill, a partner at Tax Management Systems Inc. Topics will include licensing requirements in Loudoun County and Leesburg, requirements for deducting the business use of a home, deduction limitations, depreciation, business automobile usage and record-keeping. Workshop on Writing Skills

The Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a workshop on writing and speaking skills for business people from 1 to 4 p.m. Aug. 18.
