Bethesda District

SEXUAL ASSAULTS

WESTBARD AVE., 5300 block, 1 a.m. July 24. A woman left her friends inside a bowling alley and went out to smoke a cigarette. While in the parking lot she met a man and consented to have sex, then changed her mind, but he refused to honor her request. She argued with the assailant for a while, then left with a friend. Several hours later, she reported the incident to police.

ASSAULTS

BETHESDA AVE., 4800 block, July 14. Three male youths from Bethesda were charged with second-degree assault, conspiracy to commit robbery and possession of drug paraphernalia in connection with an incident at the above location. Two of the youths were also charged with strong-arm robbery, second-degree assault and possession of marijuana.

BETHESDA AVE., 4800 block, 2:35 a.m. July 17. A youth demanded cash from a pedestrian. A second pedestrian protested and was struck repeatedly until cash was surrendered. The assailant fled with two acquaintances. Three youths were arrested a short time later near Bethesda Avenue and Arlington Road. Two Bethesda youths were charged with robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, second-degree assault, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. A third Bethesda youth was charged with conspiracy to commit robbery, conspiracy to commit second-degree assault and possession of drug paraphernalia.

GRANT AVE., 10200 block, 10:30 p.m. July 21. Two men argued outside this location. One started to walk away, then turned and shot at the other man. A bullet entered a nearby house, grazing a woman inside. She was treated at a local hospital. The assailant fled in a silver car. No other injuries were reported.

THEFTS/BREAK-INS

CRESTWOOD RD., 10100 block, 2:30 to 3 p.m. July 16. An attempt was made to enter a residence. Nothing was reported missing.

DELRAY AVE., 4900 block, 6:06 p.m. July 16 to 7:25 a.m. July 18. Two laptop computers were stolen from a business entered through a door.

EXECUTIVE BLVD., 6100 block, 5 p.m. July 16 to 2:20 p.m. July 18. Cash was stolen from a business entered through a wall.

GOLDSBORO RD., 6000 block, 10 p.m. July 17 to 1 a.m. July 18. A laptop computer was stolen from a residence entered by breaking a door.

OXFORD ST., 4800 block, July 18. Property was stolen from an elementary school. A Rockville youth and a Kensington youth were charged with attempt fourth-degree burglary, fourth-degree possession of burglary tools and possession of fireworks.

ROCKVILLE PIKE, 11500 block, 7:30 p.m. July 15 to 6:46 a.m. July 16. Two laptop computers and several cell phones were stolen from a communications business.

WISCONSIN AVE., 7900 block, 8:30 p.m. July 14 to July 15. A computer, a computer monitor and a desktop computer were stolen from a business.

Germantown District

SEXUAL ASSAULTS

GERMANTOWN AREA, July 18. A man sexually assaulted a female acquaintance in her apartment.

GERMANTOWN AREA. On July 21, a male youth was charged with sexually assaulting a younger male relative.

POOLESVILLE AREA, July 2002 to Dec. 2003. A Poolesville youth was charged as a juvenile with a second-degree sex offense, two counts of third-degree sex offenses and child abuse in connection with incidents that occurred while the youth was employed as a babysitter.

THEFTS/BREAK-INS

CLOPPER RD., 13500 block, 6:46 p.m. July 15 to ;7 a.m. July 16. Cash and checks were stolen from a child-care business entered through an unlocked rear door.

Gaithersburg District

SEXUAL ASSAULTS

QUINCE ORCHARD BLVD., 500 to 900 block, 8:47 p.m. July 23. A man exposed himself to a homeowner standing inside her house.

WASHINGTON BLVD., 9800 block, 4 p.m. July 12. A man exposed himself to a male youth.

WASHINGTON GROVE LANE AND AMITY DRIVE, July 20. A Gaithersburg woman reported that on the evening of Feb. 1 two men came out from behind some trees, forced her to the ground and raped her.

ASSAULTS

OAKMONT AVE., 16700 block, 9:30 p.m. July 21. A man tried to break up a fight between two men in a parking lot. The men struck him and fled. The victim was also stabbed.

CARJACKINGS

BUREAU DR., 1-100 block, 12:25 a.m. July 23. Two men wearing ski masks forced a motorist and his two acquaintances out of a maroon 2002 Cadillac Escalade at gunpoint.

ROBBERIES

FREDERICK AVE. N., 200 block, 11:25 a.m. July 23. A man claiming to be armed with explosives gave a holdup note to a bank teller, then fled with cash. A short time later an officer stopped a man not wearing clothing matching the description given by bank employees, but who had been seen coming out of a construction-site portable toilet carrying a white plastic bag. The officer let the man go after he showed identification. A search of the portable toilet led to the recovery of the holdup note, and clothing recognized by the bank staff was found in a nearby dumpster. Police learned that the man had taken a taxi to a motel on Shady Grove Road and arrested him there. A 45-year-old Gathersburg man was charged with armed robbery.

LAKE FOREST MALL, 8:50 p.m. July 12. A man pretending to be a jewelry store customer grabbed a diamond ring from a salesperson, then fled to a waiting vehicle.

LAKE FOREST MALL, 6:50 p.m. July 17. A man pretending to be a jewelry store customer grabbed a bracelet from an employee and fled down an escalator.

LOST KNIFE RD., 18400 block, 6:30 p.m. July 21. Two men robbed a deliveryman of cash, a cell phone and food at knifepoint.

ORCHARD RD., 1-100 block, 4 p.m. July 19. A man engaged a 41-year-old man in conversation, struck him several times, knocked him to the ground, and robbed him of cash.

THEFTS/BREAK-INS

DIAMOND AVE. W., 1-100 block, 6 p.m. July 13 to 7 a.m. July 14. Cash was stolen from a paint store entered by forcing a rear door.

SILKCOTTON WAY, 17700 block, July 21. A male youth was charged with fourth-degree burglary and attempted theft under $500 in connection with an incident at this location.

Rockville District

ASSAULTS

ELM CROFT BLVD. 600 block, 8 p.m. July 19. A man threw a bottle at a 40-year-old acquaintance. The victim was treated for lacerations at a local hospital.

Silver Spring District

SEXUAL ASSAULTS

CASTLE BLVD., 13600 to 14000 block, 12:22 a.m. July 23. A man driving a black SUV offered a ride to a 27-year-old pedestrian getting off a bus. She refused at first, then agreed to accompany him. He drove her home, then followed her to the door. She allowed him into her apartment, where he began to sexually assault her. She fled to a bathroom and locked herself in. After he left, she discovered that her purse was missing.

ROBBERIES

DALEWOOD DR., 12600 block. A 15-year-old Rockville youth was charged with attempted strong-arm robbery and second-degree assault in connection with an April 28 incident at the above location.

GEORGIA AVENUE AND CAMERON STREET, 6:15 p.m. July 20. Two men struck a youth and robbed him and a companion of bicycles. One assailant claimed to be armed with a gun.

MEDALLION DR., 4200 block, 2 p.m. July 21. Two gunmen forced their way into a residence, forced the homeowner and her male acquaintance to an upstairs bedroom, and bound then with duct tape. The assailants ransacked the house and fled with cash and jewelry.

NEW HAMPSHIRE AVE., 10500 block, July 27. Four men dragged a sleeping motorist from his vehicle. They beat him and shot him several times with a pellet gun, then robbed him of a wallet and fled in a red vehicle. A short time later, a burning vehicle matching the description of the one used by the assailants was seen near New Hampshire Avenue and the Capital Beltway. Four males detained near the vehicle were charged with armed robbery. The motorist was treated for multiple injuries at a hospital.

NEW HAMPSHIRE AVE., 11200 block, 9:10 a.m. July 13. A man claiming that he was armed with a gun used his van to block the path of a video-store employee trying to drive to a bank to make a deposit. He grabbed a deposit bag from the employee and fled in the van.

PINEY BRANCH RD., 8500 block, 9:18 p.m. July 19. One of two men pretending to be customers at a gas station went behind the counter after the register was opened. He then displayed a gun and took cash.

QUAIL VALLEY BLVD., 4:35 p.m. July 24. A taxicab passenger put a knife to the driver's neck and demanded cash. The driver stepped on the gas instead, and crashed into another vehicle. The passenger fled. A short time later, a man carrying a bloody knife and a pillowcase was stopped while climbing over a fence. Investigation revealed that he had burglarized a residence in the 9200 block of Hummingbird Terrace. A 22-year-old man of no fixed address was charged with attempted robbery, first-degree assault, first-degree burglary and theft under $500. The driver was treated at a hospital for a neck wound.

THEFTS/BREAK-INS

CASTLE BLVD., 13800 block, 10 a.m. July 14 to 4:50 p.m. July 15. A laptop computer was stolen from a residence entered by forcing a door.

CASTLE BLVD., 13800 block, July 19. Three male youths were charged with first-degree burglary, theft under $500 and destruction of property in connection with an incident at this location.

ELSWORTH DR., 900 block, 6 p.m. Jan. 12 to 6 a.m. July 13. Electrical tools were stolen from a business entered by breaking a rear door.

FLOWER AVE., 8500 block, 2 to 7 p.m. July 13. A video camera, wine, a CD boombox and a VCR were stolen from a residence entered through a window.

FLOWER AVE., 8700 block, 4:15 a.m. July 17. A telephone calling card and clothing were stolen from a business entered by breaking a door.

HAMPTON AVE. N., 600 block, July 21. A 24-year-old Wheaton man was charged with burglary, destruction of property and trespassing in connection with an incident at this location.

MAPLEWOOD AVE., 800 block, 4:30 p.m. July 17. A residence was entered by forcing a window. Nothing was reported missing.

OLD COLUMBIA PIKE, 11300 block, 7:30 a.m. to 4:09 p.m. July 7. A fountain pen collection, telephones, a purse, jewelry and a camera were stolen from a residence entered by forcing a window.

QUEBEC TER., 1000 block, 7:50 to 8:10 a.m. July 16. A residence was entered by forcing a rear window. Nothing was reported missing.

REGALWOOD TER., 4400 block, noon July 10 to 11:30 a.m. July 13. A residence was entered by forcing a basement door. Nothing was reported missing.

SHOREHAM DR., 14300 block, July 14. A 22-year-old College Park man was charged with third-degree burglary and second-degree assault in connection with an incident at this location.

SOUTHAMPTON DR., 300 block, 6:15 a.m. to 6:15 p.m. July 15. Cash was stolen from a residence entered through a side window.

Wheaton/Glenmont District

SEXUAL ASSAULTS

ASPEN HILL AREA, 3:45 p.m. May 19. A man called an acquaintance and asked if she needed a ride in his taxi. She declined his offer, but he came to her home anyway. He forced her on to a couch and tried to rape her, but she fought him off. On July 16, a 50-year-old Woodbine man was charged with attempted second-degree rape, fourth-degree sexual assault and second-degree assault.

OLNEY AREA, 5:30 p.m. April 20. A handyman who had worked at a house a month earlier entered the home through an unlocked door and tried to rape a 43-year-old woman who was sleeping on a couch. She was able to escape. On July 15, a 49-year-old Brookeville man was charged with attempted first-degree rape and first-degree burglary.

ASSAULTS

VEIRS MILL AND RANDOLPH ROADS, 8:30 p.m. July 18. A man shot a male youth. The victim was taken to Suburban Hospital and then to Medstar for treatment of life-threatening wounds.

ROBBERIES

CONNECTICUT AVE., 10500 block, 3 a.m. July 22. Two men wearing ski masks robbed a convenience store of cigarettes and cash at knifepoint.

VILLAGE MART DR., 18100 block, 9:10 p.m. July 15. A man pretending to be a customer robbed a telephone-store employee of cash. Two male accomplices, one armed with a gun, took telephones from the back of the store. The three men fled through a rear door.

Rockville

BALTIMORE RD., 2000 block, 4 p.m. July 18 to 8:45 a.m. July 19. A tote bag containing shoes and documents was stolen from a vehicle entered by forcing a rear passenger window.

CHAPMAN AVE., 1700 block, 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. July 20. A radio was stolen from a vehicle.

CHURCH ST., 1-100 block, 2 to 6 p.m. July 22. A wallet was stolen from an office.

CURRIER DR., 300 block, 9 p.m. July 10 to 10:30 a.m. July 11. Front and rear emblems were stolen from two vehicles.

GERARD ST., 1400 block, noon July 16 to 8 a.m. July 19. Emblems were stolen from a vehicle.

IVY LEAGUE LANE, 800 block, 7 p.m. July 16 to 11 a.m. July 17. Fog-light covers were stolen from a vehicle.

JEFFERSON ST. E., 1500 block, 8:44 p.m. July 16 to 11:30 a.m. July 19. A TV, a DVD player, a telephone base unit and handset and a calculator were stolen from a business entered by forcing a rear door. The premises were also ransacked.

KING FARM BLVD.,300 block, 6:30 p.m. July 15 to 9:30 a.m. July 16. A microwave oven was stolen from an apartment.

LEMAY RD., 5900 block, 10 p.m. July 19 to 7:30 a.m. July 20. A stereo and an organizer were stolen from a vehicle entered by forcing a front passenger window.

MARTINS LANE, 300 block, 12:30 to 1:20 p.m. July 19. A wallet was stolen from a gym bag.

MARTINS LANE, 300 block, 5:30 to 5:45 p.m. July 22. A purse was stolen from a chair.

RESEARCH CT., 1-100 block, A laptop computer and a black leather case were stolen from a vehicle entered by breaking a rear vent window. A DVD player, DVDs, a black case and an AV connection kit were stolen from another vehicle at this location entered by breaking a rear passenger window.

ROCKVILLE PIKE, 1500 block, 2:13 to 2:33 p.m. July 22. A laundry basket, ink cartridges and cosmetics were stolen.

ROCKVILLE PIKE, 1600 block, 6 to 7 p.m. July 17. A digital camera were stolen from a vehicle.

TWINBROOK PKWY., 12900 block, 6:40 to 7 p.m. July 22. A cell phone left on a bleacher seating fixture was stolen.

VEIRS MILL RD., 2000 block, noon to 4:20 p.m. July 20. Two stone figures were stolen from a vehicle.

MAPLE AVE., 7100 block, 11:50 p.m. July 26. Two men tried to rob a man, a woman and two children of their property. When the woman screamed, one assailant ran away and the other fled on a bicycle.

CARROLL AVE., 7000 block, 11:35 p.m. July 23. Property was stolen from a business.

GRANT AVE., 1-100 block, 7:30 a.m. July 23 to 8:30 a.m. July 25. Property was stolen from a residential shed entered by breaking a lock.

NEW HAMPSHIRE AVE., 6800 block, 9 p.m. July 27 to 10 p.m. July 28. Property was stolen from business entered by breaking a window.

PHILADELPHIA AVE., 1-100 block, 9 p.m. July 24 to 3 p.m. July 25. Property was stolen from a house entered through an open basement window.

MOTOR VEHICLE THEFTS

ELM AVE., 900 block, 1 p.m. July 28 to 7:45 a.m. July 29. A 2002 BMW motorcycle was stolen.

NEW HAMPSHIRE AVE., 7600 block, 10:50 a.m. to 8:20 p.m. July 24. A 1997 Honda Civic was stolen.
