In the July 22 article on the area's best barbeque restaurants ["On the Barbeque- Tasting Trail"], we asked for your suggestions for places we might have missed. Several readers mentioned the Famous Dave's chain, which has a restaurant in Oakton, among other places in Northern Virginia (see www.famousdaves.com for locations).

"The barbeque is great, and the restaurant is always packed. You should check it out," wrote Steve Haracznak of Vienna.

Added Jim Bryant of McLean: "I know barbecue is a subjective subject, but the ribs I've had at Famous Dave's are the best I've had since Arthur Bryant's in Kansas City."

Here are other responses:

* "Please add to your list one of our favorites, Bubba's Bar-BQ & Catering, 7810-F Lee Highway, between Jefferson golf course and King David memorial park. Try it -- you'll like it."

* "Hey, what about Bubba's on Lee Highway? It's delicious. The interior is a mite hokey, but we usually get dinner to go. It's very good."

Mary Techau

Falls Church

* "I was . . . disappointed that one place that has the worst food I've ever paid for (BBQ World) was covered but not American Bar-B-Que & Catering, 7230 Lockport Pl., Lorton, at the corner of Lockport and Telegraph Road (my personal favorite in the area).

"Also, it would have been of particular interest to compare Famous Dave's to the other largest chain, Red Hot & Blue."

Jim Reed

Fairfax

* "I have another great barbecue restaurant/carryout that I would like to recommend. Try Old Hickory Grille at Loehmann's Plaza, 7263-G Arlington Blvd., Falls Church. Their pulled pork and chicken are $10 a pound and taste delicious! And the management is friendly."
