FAMILY FEST

This day-long event focusing on family health and safety, education, community awareness and nutrition will feature hands-on interactive stations, exhibits, demonstrations and entertainment. Children will have the opportunity to contribute to a canvas artwork, which will be donated and put on display at the Loudoun Hospital Center. There will be a reptile center where participants can learn about reptiles and their habitats, a Teddy Bear clinic where children will be given a free teddy bear (while supplies last) and instructed on how to care for the teddy during a mock check-up and first aid demonstration. Other activities include an interactive display from the nurses of Loudoun Healthcare during which participants will be able to see and touch an anesthesia mask and surgical equipment. Diamond Sports Training will be conducting a swing analysis for softball and baseball, and Brixalot will have a series of stations where children will be able to build Lego Brix and Duplo Brix models.

WOMEN IN THE OUTDOORS

The John S. Mosby Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation and the Loudoun County Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America are holding the first "Loudoun County Is For Women In The Outdoors" event for women ages 14 and older on Saturday. Learn about pond fishing, fly-fishing, outdoor survival skills, maps and compasses, wild turkey and deer hunting, canoeing, archery and shooting sports. Melinda Gable, executive director of the Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation, will be the speaker.

WATERCOLOR GARDEN TOUR

Local artist and educator Catherine Obreza Fetterman, will lead participants on a "Watercolor Garden Tour" Aug. 16-20, 10 a.m.-3: 30 p.m. each day. This series of watercolor workshops, geared for the beginner to intermediate level artist, will take place in a variety of beautiful settings, including Oatlands Plantation, Fields of Flowers and a private residence in Sterling. Topics include the fundamentals of painting in watercolor, with special emphasis on creating the illusion of depth, and painting stones, foliage, flowers and bricks.
