Bus stolen: A man stole a charter bus yesterday in Southwest Washington and was arrested as he drove the vehicle in Prince George's County, police said.
About 12:45 p.m., a driver parked his 18-passenger bus and went inside a food shop in the 4000 block of South Capitol Street SW, leaving one passenger on board, police said. Another man then boarded the bus, ordered the woman to get off and drove the vehicle away, police said.
The bus was stopped in Forest Heights, where police arrested Wally Hurt, 31. Police said they were going to charge Hurt with unarmed carjacking.
Teens arrested: Three Colorado teenagers were arrested yesterday on drug and explosives charges after they drove their recreational vehicle into a restricted area near the White House, police said.
Secret Service officers stopped the vehicle at 17th and C streets NW about 9:15 a.m. as it entered a "no truck" zone. After the teenagers consented to a search of the vehicle, officers found a half-pound of marijuana, an unregistered shotgun, unregistered ammunition and a cache of illegal fireworks, authorities said.
Mitchell Neeley, Jackson Chatterly and Lindsay Boatright, all 18 and of Colorado Springs, were taken into custody and were being processed last night on charges of possessing and intending to distribute drugs and explosive devices. Neeley also was charged with possessing an unregistered firearm and unregistered ammunition.
* A man was shot and killed early yesterday in Northwest Washington, police said. The man, whose name was not released pending notification of relatives, was shot about 4 a.m. in the 3800 block of 14th Street NW, police said. The man ran to a nearby apartment building, where he collapsed in the lobby and died, police said. Police said the man had recently been released from prison.
* A 35-year-old man was fatally shot Tuesday night in Southeast Washington, D.C. police said yesterday. Jenneth L. Joiner Jr., of the 500 block of 47th Street NE, was shot in the head about 8:30 p.m. in the 5400 block of Drake Place, police said. He died about an hour later at Prince George's Hospital Center.
