Two Charles County schools are among 15 Catholic elementary schools in the Archdiocese of Washington that have new principals.
Todd Higginbotham has been named principal at St. Mary, Star of the Sea School in Indian Head.
Higginbotham was principal of a Catholic elementary school in Orange, Tex., for three years. He also has been dean of students at a Catholic high school in Houston for three years and a special education teacher in Port Arthur, Tex.
Nearly 190 students attend kindergarten through eighth grade at St. Mary, Star of the Sea.
Sharon Caniglia has been named principal at the St. Mary School in Bryantown.
Caniglia taught first grade at St. Peter School in Waldorf for the past six years. She has been a teacher for 18 years.
Caniglia also has served for 12 years as a member, vice chairman and chairman of the Charles County Board of Education. She is an associate faculty member of the College of Notre Dame of Maryland.
St. Mary School has nearly 230 students in kindergarten through eighth grade.
The Archdiocese of Washington includes 110 pre-kindergarten, elementary and secondary schools in the District of Columbia and Calvert, Charles, St. Mary's, Montgomery and Prince George's counties in Maryland.
Classes for the nearly 34,000 students begin Aug. 31.
