Top-ranked athletes will perform exhibitions this weekend in Bowie during a two-day skateboarding and BMX biking festival. "The Scion Thrash & Jam" will feature skateboarder Bucky Lasek and many others at the Bowie Baysox stadium, 4101 Crain Hwy. There also will be performances by regional and national rock bands, including the All Mighty Senators, Eleven, Operatic, Jimmie's Chicken Shack, Kelly Bell Band, Can't Hang, Vote Quimby and Fourth Element. Doors open at 1:15 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and performances run from 2 to 8 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children younger than 12. Parking is $10. 301-805-6000.
War of 1812 reenactors will camp out Saturday and simulate battle preparations on the lawn of Riversdale Mansion. After they demonstrate military camp life, the soldiers will run drills and act out the Battle of Bladensburg. Away from the fighting, a reenactor playing Rosalie Stier Calvert, the mistress of Riversdale, will tell stories about 19th-century life. The events, which are free, will be from noon to 4 p.m. at Riverdale Park, 4811 Riverdale Rd. MAKING THE MOST OF SUMMER
To celebrate the leisurely days of summer, Tucker Road Community Center is inviting everyone, regardless of age, to its end-of-summer blast Saturday. Festivities will include a moon bounce, games, a rock wall for climbing, line-dancing and a booth for making music videos. There will be refreshments, prizes and music spun by a disc jockey from noon to 4 p.m. at the center, 1771 Tucker Rd. in Fort Washington.
