Upperville Woman Tapped
For '05 World Exposition
President Bush appointed Lisa Guillermin Gable of Upperville as U.S. commissioner general to the 2005 World Exposition in Aichi, Japan. The appointment gives the former technology and brand management executive the rank of ambassador.
The exposition will take place March 25 through Sept. 25, 2005. The 17,000-square-foot U.S. pavilion will honor Benjamin Franklin.
Gable is chairman of the board of the Pacific Research Institute, the San Francisco-based think tank that focuses on education, health care and entrepreneurialism and has served as a commissioner of the President's Commission on White House Fellowships. She also was principal and co-founder of the Guillermin Group, an Atlanta and Silicon Valley consulting firm specializing in brand management for Fortune 500 companies.
Route 29 Delays Likely
As Nighttime Paving Begins
Motorists driving on Route 29 from the Prince William County line to Route 600 (Beverly's Mills Road) in Fauquier County should expect slight delays this week as Virginia Department of Transportation crews begin nighttime paving of southbound lanes.
Crews will be working from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. starting tonight.
Bluemont Lightning Strike
Damages Home, Contents
Lightning struck a home in the 18500 block of Calument Lane in Bluemont on Wednesday afternoon, causing extensive damage to the structure and contents, the Loudoun County Fire Marshal's Office said.
Middleburg, Aldie, Leesburg, Clark County, Fauquier County and Frederick County emergency workers responded. One firefighter was treated at the scene for heat exhaustion.
