Mark Thallander, a former organist in California who lost his arm in an accident last summer, will speak and play the organ at St. David's Episcopal Church on Sunday .

Thallander was associate organist for 18 years at the Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove, Calif., serving alongside the renowned Frederick Swann, and then at Menlo Park Presbyterian Church and at Lake Avenue Congregational Church in Pasadena, both of which have thousands of congregants. He now teaches music at Vanguard University. Since his accident, he has learned how to play the organ using a prosthesis.

The Kernstown United Methodist Wind Ensemble will play at the 9:30 a.m. service Sunday at Christian Community Church at St. Paul's. John Creswell will be the guest preacher Sunday at the Unitarian Universalists of Sterling and will share why he feels that Unitarian Universalism is the next great religious movement of the 21st century.

At 7: 30 p.m. Wednesday, the church will host an interfaith prayer vigil for a humanitarian resolution to the crisis in Darfur, a province in western Sudan. The service will include interfaith prayers led by the Rev. Roberta Finkelstein, candle lighting and a time for individual sharing.
