Fallen Biker Memorial Run
The second annual ride to promote public awareness of the need for automobiles and bikers to share roads safely starts Sunday in St. Mary's County. Participants will travel through Calvert, Anne Arundel, Prince George's and Charles counties. Sponsored by Bikers With Heart Foundation Inc., the 95-mile ride honors fallen motorcyclists and benefits a fund to create a national memorial. Bikers can register between 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. at All American Harley-Davidson in Mechanicsville. A safety briefing will be given at 11:45 a.m. and a bike blessing at noon. Departure time is 12:30 p.m. The ride's final destination is the Charles County Fairgrounds in La Plata where music, raffles, food, beverages, door prizes and entertainment await the bikers. African American Heritage
African American Heritage Day, an annual event being held Saturday, celebrates the heritage of African Americans through dance, storytelling, music, food, exhibits and displays. The day-long celebration will feature the National Colonial Farm's interpreters presenting 18th-century lifestyles, buildings, gardens and crops. Scheduled participants and performers include the Archie Edwards Band, Buffalo Soldiers, the National Museum of Civil War Medicine, Great Blacks in Wax Museum and Dorsey Chapel. Food will be catered by Waltons Onestop Seafood and Carryout. African American Heritage Day is an Accokeek Foundation event sponsored by the National Park Service, The Washington Post and the Maryland State Arts Council.
