The following organizations need volunteer help for a day, a week or on a regular basis.
The Fairfax County Park Authority's Adapted Aquatics needs volunteers for an individualized swimming and water activity program for children and adults with physical and mental disabilities. Volunteers must commit to a class series lasting from eight to 10 weeks. Classroom and pool work training will take place from 1 to 6 p.m. Sept. 11 at the Providence RECenter. Fairfax Area Agency on Aging needs Meals on Wheels volunteers to deliver prepared meals to the homebound elderly in the Chantilly, Tysons, McLean, Reston, Herndon, Alexandria and Fairfax areas. The Clifton Meals on Wheels group needs a volunteer treasurer. For more information, call 703-324-5406.
Fairfax County Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court needs volunteers to work under the supervision of court staff, meet with families after court hearings, clarify court orders, sign probation rules and provide information regarding program referrals. Bilingual applicants are encouraged to apply. A six-month commitment of one four-hour shift a week is needed. Applicants must be at least 21. For more information, call Gwen Robinson at 703-246-2697.
The SPCA of Northern Virginia needs foster homes for dogs and cats. The SPCA does not have a shelter and depends on foster homes for animals that have been rescued from abuse, neglect and abandonment. For more information, call 703-799-9390 or visit www.spcanova.org.
The Washington Area Bicyclist Association needs volunteers to help with tour marshaling, a children's bike rodeo, rider registration and other tasks at its 32-mile Giant Food BikeDC ride on Sept. 18. For more information, call 202-628-2500.
