Driving Hot Spots

Here is a selection of road advisories. Weather and equipment availability can affect timing.

1. Burke Lake Road:

Closed between Windward and Wilmington drives through Sept. 5.

2. Veirs Mill Road:

Left eastbound lane closed 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday along Aspen Hill Road.

3. Interstate 270 (north):

Left lane and shoulder closed 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday between the Capital Beltway and Westlake Terrace.

4. Capital Beltway (outer loop):

Right lane closed 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday between Old Georgetown Road and I-270 West spur.

5. East-West Highway:

Left lane closed in each direction 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday between Connecticut Avenue and Edgevale Street.

6. Piney Branch Road:

Right eastbound lane closed 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday between University Boulevard and New Hampshire Avenue.

7. Capital Beltway (inner loop):

Left lane closed 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday between the Baltimore-Washington Parkway and Good Luck Road.

8. St. Barnabas Road:

Left eastbound and westbound lanes closed 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday between Larry Avenue and Virginia Lane.

9. Capital Beltway (both loops):

Two left lanes closed 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Tuesday through Thursday from Livingston Road to the Wilson Bridge.

10. Capital Beltway (inner loop):

Two left lanes closed 10:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Thursday between the Wilson Bridge and Route 1.

11. Route 1 (south):

Merge lane from Beltway (outer loop) closed through Tuesday.

12. Springfield Interchange:

One lane on the Capital Beltway (inner loop) after the exit for I-395 north closed for about 18 months.

Transit Update

METROBUS:

SmarTrip fareboxes are now installed in all Metrobuses. The boxes accept SmarTrip cards for fare payment, transfers between buses and transfers from Metrorail to bus. Customers still can pay fares with cash, passes or tokens.

Tip of the Week

A Richmond Highway Express bus, nicknamed REX, is scheduled to begin operating Sept. 26. This service, sponsored by Metro, Fairfax County and Alexandria, should shorten the trip between Fort Belvoir and the Huntington and King Street Metro stations.
