Chaptico Classic Race

A three-mile walking trail and 5- and 10-kilometer running courses are part of the 19th annual Chaptico Classic Race and Walk on Saturday in St. Mary's County. The course has been rated as one of the best county road races, according to Running Times magazine. The routes take participants along rolling farm fields and through scenic countryside and historic Chaptico village. Participants can sign up the day of the event, but advance registration is recommended. Proceeds from the race and walk benefit Alternatives for Youth and Families, a nonprofit agency that serves troubled youths and their families. 7 a.m. registration; 8 a.m. start. An Evening of Folk Music

Folk artists Carrie and Michael Kline present entertainment and social history with their music of rural America, mountain harmonies, love ballads, and storytelling. 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Barley Moon, Campfire

Enjoy the rising of a full Barley Moon on Saturday while singing songs and cooking a picnic supper over a campfire. Battle Creek invites the community to close out the summer, send the birds to roost and watch as bats emerge for their nightly hunt.
