Golf Event Registration

Golfers have until tomorrow to register for the Bank of Glen Burnie's 14th annual tournament.

Proceeds from the tournament will benefit Hospice of the Chesapeake, a nonprofit care and bereavement facility for residents of Anne Arundel and Prince George's counties.

The tournament will begin at 8 a.m. Sept. 13 at the South River Golf Links, 3451 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater.

Holiday Trash Schedule

Closing Monday for Labor Day are the Millersville Landfill and Resource Recovery Facility of the Anne Arundel County Department of Public Works, 389 Burns Crossing Rd., Severn, and the department's Glen Burnie Convenience Center, 100 Dover Rd., Glen Burnie.

The department will not collect curbside trash, recycling or yard waste. Department of Public Works facilities will reopen and trash collection will resume Tuesday.

Volunteer Award Deadline

Residents have until Sept. 14 to submit nominations for Anne Arundel County's "outstanding volunteer."

Nominees must be county residents and show an exceptional level of dedication to their community by volunteering their time and services at local organizations.

All nominees will be honored during a Sept. 23 reception in the County Council Chambers, the Arundel Center, 44 Calvert St., Annapolis.

A panel of judges will select the "outstanding volunteer," who will represent the county during the state's "Maryland, You Are Beautiful" contest. Day Trip to New York

The Piney Orchard Community Social Committee is hosting a one-day bus trip Oct. 9 to New York.

The bus will depart at 6:30 a.m. from the Piney Orchard commuter lot, on Piney Orchard Parkway, and is scheduled to arrive in Times Square by 10:30 a.m. The return trip will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Sale to Benefit Hospice

Chesapeake Treasures, in Severna Park's Park Plaza Shopping Center, will hold a 25-cent knickknack sale through Sept. 30 in honor of Hospice of the Chesapeake's 25th anniversary.

The resale shop, which raises money for the nonprofit bereavement and hospice care facility, is staffed and managed by volunteers. Chesapeake Treasures is open from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, with extended hours through 7 p.m. Thursdays. For more information, call 410-384-9260.

Pass for Museum, Cruises

The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum and Patriot Cruises have collaborated to give patrons discounts on their services through the "Navy Point Pass." Passes cost $18 for adults and $9 for students and allow patrons to tour the museum and take one of four cruises on the Patriot cruise ship.
