Cat, Owners Survive Fire
ELLICOTT CITY, Dana Ct., 2800 block, 11:05 a.m. Aug. 24. Animal Control received a report that a cat was inside a residence that had caught fire the night before. Fire officials said fire burned the front of the first and second floors of the residence. Three occupants escaped with smoke inhalation and burn injuries of varying degrees and were transported to the Bayview Burn Center in Baltimore. An animal control officer went to the address and found the cat, which appeared to be healthy. It was taken to a veterinarian for diagnosis and observation. The cat was found to be in good condition and released to Animal Control to be returned later to the owners. Two of the owners have been released from the hospital. The cause of the fire was still being investigated.
Cat Seen After Resident's Death
ELLICOTT CITY, Town and Country Blvd., 9000 block, 11:25 a.m. Aug. 24. A caller reported that a cat left inside an apartment where a resident had died four days earlier could be seen peering out of the apartment window. Animal Control contacted the manager of the apartments and was told that a second person lived in the apartment. Maintenance personnel entered the apartment to locate the cat and found food and water containers but could not locate any animals. Animal control officials have attempted to contact the second resident to confirm the care and location of the cat. The case was continuing.
Animal Advocates Group Meets
Animal Advocates of Howard County has scheduled a meeting from 7 to 9 p.m. today to inform the public about the group's work, including aiding homeless animals and endorsing legislation to protect animals.
