Players to Watch

RYAN CALLAHAN, junior, Old Mill, RB: A reason to watch: "He's what is called a one-step cutter," Old Mill Coach Mike Marcus said. "He doesn't stop when he cuts, and that's not something you can teach."

TIM HACKMAN, senior, Severna Park, FB: A reason to watch: "He's a house, just a real beast," Severna Park Coach J.P. Hines said. "He weights 245 pounds and he's a legit 4.6 runner. Nobody messes with him."

BOBBY ATWELL, senior, Southern, S-RB: A reason to watch: "I love delivering big hits," Atwell said. "That's what football is all about for me. When I'm feeling good, I can knock some people."

CHRIS DESAUTELS, senior, Broadneck, PK: A reason to watch: "Last year I was all-state, so this year I want all-American," Desautels said. "If I get the chance, I can hit from 50 yards."

GARY TOWNES, senior, Chesapeake, RB: A reason to watch: "I feel like I'm stronger and faster than last year," Townes said. "If everything goes right, I could run for 2,000 yards."

DEON PETERS, senior, Severn, RB: A reason to watch: "He's got the whole package: good speed, good vision, excellent balance," Severn Coach John Beckman said. "He's just a tremendous athlete, and he won't back down from anyone."

MIKE WHITTLES, senior, Spalding, LB: A reason to watch: "He has the desire to make things happen on every play," said Spalding Coach Mike Whittles of his son. "If you've got the ball, he's coming for it."

BILL JOHNSON, senior, Arundel, WR: A reason to watch: "He's so fast, he can open up the whole field for us," Arundel Coach Chuck Markiewicz said of Johnson, who won't be eligible in the first three games. "His speed can be a game-breaker."
