New Development Official
Robin Finnacom has been named executive director of the St. Mary's County Community Development Corp. (CDC). The appointment was approved this month by the county commissioners.
The CDC is an independent nonprofit organization that works to secure funding for community and economic development projects in St. Mary's. Under an agreement approved last month, the county provides partial funding for the executive director.
Finnacom has been director of the Lexington Park Plan since January 2000. She also was designated as disaster recovery coordinator after Hurricane Isabel a year ago. The new position will operate as a division of the county Department of Economic and Community Development and will be housed at the CDC offices in Lexington Park.
Veterans Fundraiser Set
The second annual Disabled American Veterans Bluegrass Fund Raiser and Bull Roast is scheduled from 1 to 8 p.m. Oct. 2.
Seven bluegrass bands will perform at American Legion Post 238 in Hughesville. The fundraiser will be the last major event at the post before it moves to a new location because its building is in the path of the Hughesville Bypass
Tickets cost $10 and will be sold at the gate the day of the show. Food and beverages will be available for sale. The show, which is being presented by the Sons of the American Legion and produced by Jay Armsworthy, will go on rain or shine and will move inside in wet weather.
