Small-Business Seminars

The Loudoun County Small Business Development Center will offer a seminar from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. today titled "How to Get Small Business Financing With as Little Pain as Possible," led by Norman Hecht, vice president of First Horizon Bank. Topics will cover what a good loan package contains, the five C's of credit, criteria lenders use to evaluate a loan, how the bank decision process works and four steps to avoid problems. Next Thursday, the center will offer a "Learn How to Create Your Own free Sales Force." Participants will learn how to get others talking about them and referring business to them by defining their brand promise for customers and potential customers, identifying their best sources of potential business and developing meaningful communication approaches. 6-8:30 p.m., Eastern Loudoun Regional Library, 21030 Whitfield Pl., Sterling. Network Over Breakfast

The Leesburg Business Forum chapter of Business Network International (BNI) will host a breakfast meeting at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, River Creek Country Club, 43800 Olympic Blvd., Leesburg.

Chamber Awards Nominations

The Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce will hold its 2004 Small Business Awards event Nov. 18 at the Lansdowne Resort. Loudoun businesses, organizations and residents may nominate small businesses by next Thursday in the following categories: Retailer of the Year; Service Business of the Year; Agri-Business of the Year; Home-Based Business of the Year; Product of the Year; Technology Business of the Year; Franchise/Distributor of the Year; Entrepreneur of the Year; and Small Business of the Year.

Nominees must: have revenues of $5 million or less; have 25 or fewer employee (full and part time); and not have won an award in the same category in the previous three years. If located in Loudoun, the business does not have to be a chamber member, but if located outside of Loudoun, the business must be a chamber member.

Riggs Branch Celebration

Riggs Bank will celebrate the opening of its branch at 21111 Dulles Town Cir. on Saturday with events from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. that will include a moon bounce, face painting, hamburgers, hot dogs and cotton candy.

Former Washington Redskins star Charles Mann will be on hand to sign autographs. All food and events are free.
