ROBBERIES

DUKE ST., 6200 block, 11:33 a.m. Sept. 19. A man took a purse from a woman, 89.

LEE ST. S., 800 block, 10:25 p.m. Sept. 10. A woman, 35, had just returned home when an armed man approached her from behind. He forced her into her home and robbed her, then fled on foot. A Maryland man, 20, was charged with robbery and held without bond at the Alexandria jail.

MOUNT VERNON AVE., 3700 block, 1:15 a.m. Sept. 18. A cell phone and a necklace were snatched from a man, 39, after he was approached by two men.

THEFTS/BREAK-INS

DUKE ST., 5000 block, 9 p.m. Sept. 17 to 7:21 a.m. Sept. 18. A business was entered by forcing a front service bay door window, and employees discovered a man sitting in a car in the bay area. Police were called. The man, 32, of no fixed address, had cut his foot on the glass window. He was taken to a hospital, where he was treated for the cut, then taken to police headquarters and charged with burglary.

EDSALL RD., 5800 block, 1 p.m. Sept. 20. A business trailer was entered by force, and two rifles, a handgun, ammunition and tools were stolen.

SHIRLINGTON RD., 2000 block, 5:35 a.m. Sept. 18. A business was entered by forcing a front glass door. Nothing was reported missing.

VALLEY DR., 2900 block, 2 p.m. Sept. 19 to 7:30 a.m. Sept. 20. An unsuccessful attempt was made to enter a religious institution by breaking several rear windows.

HOMICIDES

FAYETTE ST. N., 200 block, 10:08 p.m. Sept. 16. Musharaf Shah, a 47-year-old pizza deliveryman, had just completed a delivery to a business and was returning to his vehicle when he was shot in the chest during a robbery attempt, according to police. He was taken to a hospital, where he died. The case was under investigation.

SEXUAL ASSAULTS

PICKETT ST. S., 600 block, 6:30 to 6:55 a.m. Sept. 19. A woman, 33, was walking to a parking lot when a man in a black vehicle offered her a ride to her vehicle. The woman accepted and entered his vehicle. When they arrived at her truck, the man passed it and parked his vehicle in a nearby alley. When the woman got out, the man grabbed her. They struggled, and the man attempted to remove her clothing. The man stopped, and the woman fled to her truck. Police unsuccessfully searched for the man.

ALFRED ST. N., 900 block, 3 p.m. Sept. 16 to 5 p.m. Sept. 18. A black 1997 Nissan Altima was stolen.

BRENMAN PARK DR., 4900 block, 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Sept. 16. A black 1994 Ford Bronco was stolen.

CAMERON STATION BLVD., 400 block, 6 p.m. Sept. 14 to 4 p.m. Sept. 17. A green 1997 Toyota RAV-4 was stolen.

COLONIAL AVE., 1200 block, 8 to 8:17 a.m. Sept. 22. A maroon 1992 Oldsmobile was stolen.

COURTNEY AVE., 5500 block, 5 p.m. Sept. 20 to 1:02 p.m. Sept. 22. A white GMC pickup was stolen.

DUKE ST., 4400 block, 9 p.m. Sept. 21 to 6:45 a.m. Sept. 22. A red 2003 Kawasaki motorcycle was stolen.

DUKE ST., 5100 block, 4 p.m. Aug. 31 to 7:54 p.m. Sept. 21. A maroon 1991 Honda Civic was stolen.

KENMORE AVE., 4800 block, 7:30 p.m. Sept. 21 to 6:15 a.m. Sept. 22. A light blue 1994 Ford Econoline van was stolen.

PEARSON LANE, 5800 block, 9:30 p.m. Sept. 17 to noon Sept. 18. A dark green 1999 Honda Accord was stolen.

RALEIGH AVE., 4400 block, 6:40 p.m. Sept. 20 to 8:50 a.m. Sept. 21. A black 1999 Mazda Miata was stolen.

RALEIGH AVE., 4500 block, 9 p.m. Sept. 21 to 8 a.m. Sept. 22. A black 2002 Yamaha motorcycle was stolen.

REYNOLDS ST. S., 300 block, 5 p.m. Sept. 21 to 6 a.m. Sept. 22. A dark blue 2000 Plymouth Voyager was stolen.

SEMINARY RD., 4900 block, 6 p.m. Sept. 21 to 8:30 a.m. Sept. 22. A blue 1988 Toyota station wagon was stolen.

STRUTFIELD LANE, 4500 block, 12:30 to 1 p.m. Sept. 16. A black 1990 Kawasaki motorcycle was stolen.

TIMBER BRANCH DR., 700 block, 6:35 p.m. Sept. 20 to 9 a.m. Sept. 21. A 1999 Honda Accord was stolen.

WASHINGTON ST. S., 1200 block, 10:30 p.m. Sept. 21 to 10:40 a.m. Sept. 22. A white 1999 Jeep Cherokee was stolen.

WEST ST. N., 700 block, 4 p.m. Sept. 10 to 4 p.m. Sept. 13. A white 1991 Buick Century was stolen.

WHITING ST. S., 400 block, 5 p.m. Sept. 15. A gray 1992 Mercury Topaz was stolen.

WYNDHAM CIR., 3300 block, noon Sept. 12 to 6:45 p.m. Sept. 17. A green 1997 Plymouth Neon was stolen.

ASSAULTS

GEORGE MASON DR. S., 1200 block, 10:36 p.m. Sept. 21. A vehicle occupied by three men stopped near a male pedestrian, 19. The men got out, and one asked whether the pedestrian was in a gang. He said he wasn't and started walking away. The man struck him on the head with a bat, and the other two hit him. The pedestrian was then stabbed. The assailants fled on foot after a vehicle passed. The injured man was taken to a hospital.

NELSON ST., 2700 block, 10 a.m. Sept. 22. A man, 41, confronted a man tampering with a bicycle. The second man picked up two rocks and threw them at the first man, striking him in the head. The assailant fled on foot, and the other man was taken to a hospital.

ROBBERIES

13TH RD. S., 4200 block, 11 p.m. Sept. 17. A man, 37, was invited to drink beer with a group in front of an apartment. When he approached the group, a man threatened him with a handgun. The other people punched and kicked him, and the victim was robbed of a gold necklace.

GEORGE MASON DR. S., 1500 block, 10:05 p.m. Sept 21. A woman, 36, was getting out of her vehicle in front of an apartment when a gunman took her purse and fled in a pickup truck. A police officer -- in an unmarked vehicle stopped at a red light -- followed the truck. When marked police cars tried to stop the vehicle, the driver went to Washington, where a male passenger got out and fled. The driver stopped the truck at a dead end, and when he attempted to flee on foot, he was stopped by an Arlington officer. A Maryland man, 35, was charged with robbery and held in Washington pending extradition to Arlington.

THEFTS/BREAK-INS

ABINGDON ST. N., 3600 block, 10 p.m. Sept. 1 to 2 p.m. Sept. 18. An attempt was made to enter a building by forcing a door.

BUCHANAN ST. S., 900 block, 6:30 p.m. Sept. 20 to 7 p.m. Sept. 21. A video game console was stolen from an apartment. There were no signs of forced entry.

LEE HWY., 4500 block, 7:30 p.m. Sept. 16 to 8:30 a.m. Sept. 17. Cash was stolen from a store.

NELSON ST. N., 2000 block, 4 p.m. Sept. 15 to 1:30 p.m. Sept. 16. An apartment under construction was entered by force, and a refrigerator was stolen.

14TH ST. N., 2300 block, 11:50 p.m. Sept. 17 to 12:09 a.m. Sept. 18. The side-view mirrors of at least seven vehicles were broken.

COLUMBIA PIKE, 3000 block. A green 1996 Mercury Sable was stolen.

COLUMBIA PIKE, 4300 block. A green 1998 Subaru Legacy was stolen.

GLEBE RD. N., 600 block. A gray 1993 Honda Civic was stolen.

GLEBE RD. S., 300 block. A blue 1998 Ford Taurus was stolen.

15TH ST. N., 2000 block. A green 2001 Toyota Camry was stolen.
