Board Candidates to Speak

A school board candidates forum will be held at Mount Hebron High School, 9440 Route 99, Ellicott City, from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the auditorium.

They will be asked to speak about school crowding, redistricting and the school budget. The event is sponsored by the PTAs of Mount Hebron High, Patapsco Middle School and Hollifield Station, Waverly, Worthington, Northfield and St. John's elementary schools. For more information, call 410-461-8027.

Scholarship Data Online

A database of college scholarships is now available on the Howard County public schools Web site, www.hcpss.org (click on "Local Scholarship Database"). It allows prospective college students to search the database by grade-point average and SAT scores, as well as by race and gender.

The database was created by recent graduates from Mount Hebron High School who are interns at Applied Information Technologies Inc., a local business specializing in database Web application software. They are Ben Lindahl and Ted Budzichowski. Enhancements were made by Ryan Fitzpatrick, another recent graduate, and Matt Mason, a senior at Mount Hebron.

Business and community organizations that offer scholarships and would like to be listed in the database can contact Marlene Broadhurst in the school system's Office of School Counseling at 410-313-6647.
