Rabid Wildlife

FAIRFAX AREA, Adare Dr., 10900 block, Sept. 16. A sick bat, which had contact with a dog in the back yard of a home, was taken to a wildlife rehabilitator in the Annandale area. Police were called, and the bat was euthanized and tested positive for rabies. The dog was given a rabies booster vaccination and quarantined at home, and its owner was charged with having no dog license.

FAIRFAX AREA, Mantua Dr., 3300 block, 12:30 p.m. Sept. 26. A woman found a sick raccoon on her deck. The raccoon was euthanized and tested positive for rabies.

FAIRFAX AREA, Windsor Gate Lane, 5700 block, 5 p.m. Sept. 25. Animal control was called about an injured fox that had contact with a neighborhood dog. The fox was euthanized and tested positive for rabies. The dog had a current rabies vaccination.

FRANCONIA AREA, Fogle St., 6500 block, 8 p.m. Sept. 24. A dog fought with a raccoon, which tested positive for rabies. The dog had a current rabies vaccination.

SPRINGFIELD AREA, Kingsway Ct., 8100 block, 4:45 p.m. Sept. 24. A dog killed a bat, which tested positive for rabies. The dog had a current rabies vaccination.

Resident Gives Dog Shelter

DWIGHT AVE., 10000 block, Sept. 26. A yellow Labrador mix was found loose in a neighborhood, and a resident took the dog in for the night. The animal was taken to the city shelter the next morning and was to be put up for adoption if not claimed.

Stray Cat Bites Caretaker

JONES ST., 10700 block, Sept. 25. A stray cat bit a woman who had been feeding it for several months. She took the cat to a veterinary hospital, where it was euthanized because of heart disease. It tested negative for rabies.

Kitten Found Under Deck

CAROLYN AVE., 3800 block, Sept. 27. A man found a female longhair kitten under his deck. It was taken to the city shelter, where it was to be made available for adoption if not claimed.

Sick Raccoon on Back Porch

PARKLANE RD., 3600 block, Sept. 28. A woman reported a sick raccoon on her back porch eating cat food in the rain. The raccoon was taken to the city shelter and euthanized.
