Pavilion Comments Sought
The public will be allowed to comment at a meeting of the Merriweather Post citizens advisory panel, which Howard County Executive James N. Robey (D) appointed to make a recommendation about the future of Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia.
The comment session will start at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Banneker Room of the George Howard Building, 3430 Courthouse Dr., Ellicott City. The regular panel meeting begins at 6 p.m. in the Ellicott Room.
Meanwhile, the Howard County Planning Board has scheduled a meeting Nov. 4, its second, on a Rouse Co. proposal to develop 51 acres adjacent to the amphitheater. The company's plan would absorb the parking area at Merriweather.
Bike Drive Is Saturday
New and used bikes will be collected from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the lower-level parking lot of Christ Episcopal Church, 6800 Oakland Mills Rd., Columbia.
The drive is being conducted for Pedals for Progress, a national organization that donates bicycles to the poor in Latin America, Africa and the Pacific Islands.
Donors are asked for $10 to help defray the cost of shipping the bikes. The bikes and cash donations are tax deductible, and receipts will be available.
$50 Mammograms Offered
In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Breast Health Center at Howard County General Hospital is offering $50 mammograms this month.
The center recently received a three-year accreditation in mammography imaging services by the American College of Radiology. Daytime and some evening appointments are available. To schedule an appointment, call 410-740-7900.
