Pharmacies at Giant Food supermarkets in Southern Maryland have canceled all scheduled flu vaccination clinics, including one planned for Nov. 4 at the Waldorf store that was in the health listings published Oct. 17 in the Extra.
A Giant representative said this week that area residents should check with their local health departments about information on future clinics and the availability of the vaccine. The food chain has no plans for any more flu-shot clinics this year.
The St. Mary's County Health Department is offering a flu-shot clinic tomorrow and Saturday at the Office on Aging Health Fair. The clinic, which is for people with high health risk factors, will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days in the Loffler Building in Chancellor's Run Regional Park .
People with high risk factors include those with heart or lung disease and asthma, dialysis patients, transplant recipients, insulin-dependent diabetics, pregnant women and people in household contact with infants younger than 6 months old.
"The Health Department is asking that if you are a healthy adult person, please do not seek a flu vaccine this year," said Nancy Luginbill, a registered nurse and director of community health services.
