Festival to Feature Fitness

The Columbia Athletic Club is hosting Fall Fest on Saturday, featuring martial arts demonstrations, fitness challenges, food from local restaurants, an "Ask the Doctor" booth, a moon bounce, pony rides and face painting.

The event will be from 10 a.m. to noon outside the club in the Harper's Choice Village Center, 5435 Beaverkill Rd., Columbia. A 5K-run and 1-mile walk will take place at 8:30 a.m. Registration is required and costs $12. For more information, call 410-730-6744.

Author to Address Seniors

The Howard County Office on Aging is sponsoring a discussion with Toni Johns, the author of "Fifty Is the Worst 'F' Word I Know: A Nostalgic Look at Our First Fifty Years and Tips on How We Can Enjoy the Next Fifty."

The free program will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Savage Senior Center, 9525 Durness Lane, Laurel. Lunch, which costs $2, will follow. To reserve a seat, call 410-880-5915.

View Lunar Eclipse at HCC

A public viewing of the lunar eclipse will be held from 9 to 11 p.m. Wednesday on the Student Activities Patio of the Howard Community College Science/Technology Building, 10901 Little Patuxent Pkwy., Columbia.

Astronomy students will be available to answer questions about the eclipse, which won't be visible in the area again until March 2007. Although the eclipse can be observed by the naked eye, several telescopes will be available. Participants are encouraged to take binoculars. For more information, call Russ Poch at 410-772-4891.
