St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Sterling has a new music minister and Sunday school coordinator. The church also is looking for choir members.

Elaine Rendler, a faculty member at George Mason University's Department of Music, is the new music director. Jodie Leach, who has an elementary and special education teaching degree and has taught in Missouri, Pennsylvania and Texas, is the new Sunday school director.

Galilee United Methodist Church will hold an open house celebration Saturday for its new gym and educational center. The gym was built in memory of Eric VanNederynen, 15, a member of the congregation who was shot to death by a stranger while walking on a bike path near his Countryside home in 2000. Starting at 8 a.m., a 10K run and 2K walk will be held to benefit the Child Rescue Center in Sierra Leone.
