The following organizations need volunteer help for a day, a week or on a regular basis.

Bladensburg Waterfront Park cleanup of the Anacostia River and shoreline will be from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. Long-handled nets, rubber gloves and boat rides to and from cleanup sites will be provided. High school volunteers will be eligible for certification for community service hours. The Excellence in Education Foundation, affiliated with the Prince George's County public schools, needs office workers to help with telephone follow-ups, mailings, filing, proposal writing and data entry. The Anacostia Watershed Society needs volunteers for short- and long-term assignments. Outdoor activities may include leading canoe and pontoon trips and helping with restoration projects. The Surratt House Museum in Clinton needs docents to conduct tours dressed in period costume. Volunteers are also needed to greet visitors, work in the gift shop and sell admission tickets. Orientation and training are provided. The museum is at 9118 Brandywine Rd. Call 301-868-1121.

College Park Youth and Family Services needs volunteers to help with games, face painting, balloon animals and other activities at the annual Halloween festival. Assistance is needed from 9:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday. Call 301-474-1210.

The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission seeks adult puppeteers to design and perform 45-minute puppet shows for children ages 5 to 12 who attend its after-school programs and Saturday youth programs in the southern part of the county. Hours are 2:30 to 8 p.m. weekdays and 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays. Volunteers will drive a mobile unit and must undergo background checks and defensive-driving training. The Fall Festival at the Wayne K. Curry Sports and Learning Complex needs volunteers 15 and older to help with carnival games, face painting and crowd control. Northwestern High School ESOL Homework Club needs volunteer tutors to help students in English for Speakers of Other Languages classes in all subjects. High Point High School needs volunteer tutors to work with students on all levels of math, reading, writing, science, social sciences, English, Spanish, French, Japanese and German. Tutoring is on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons for about 11/2 hours. Training will be provided; bilingual tutors are desired but not required.
