PARCHER AVE., 13100 block, 2:30 a.m. Oct. 15. Three males demanded that a clerk in a convenience store sell them beer. When the clerk refused, one displayed a handgun and threatened the clerk. They then took beer and fled. No injuries were reported.

BROOK OVERLOOK CT., 2400 block. A license plate, a radio, lights and other property were stolen from a vehicle.

WINDHAM AVE., 6400 block, 10 p.m. Oct. 16. A man with a handgun approached a 22-year-old male pedestrian from behind and ordered him to the ground. The man then took the victim's wallet and fled on foot. No injuries were reported.

DAVIDSON RD., 1600 block, 1 p.m. Oct. 15. Police were called to a high school to investigate the theft of property from students. A 17-year-old male student was taken into custody. The youth allegedly assaulted a police officer and kicked out a window of a police car. He was charged with grand theft, destruction

of county property and assaulting a police officer.

Mount Vernon District

ATTEMPTED HOMICIDES

HALLIE ROSE ST., 8400 block, 2 a.m. Oct. 21. A man broke into a female acquaintance's house, armed himself with a knife, broke into a bedroom and threatened to kill the woman and a 21-year-old District man. The man had previously called the woman and threatened her. A 20-year-old Woodlawn area man was charged with attempted murder, burglary with intent to commit murder, destruction of private property and making threatening telephone calls. No injuries were reported.

ROBBERIES

GROVETON GARDENS RD., 7100 block, 11 p.m. Oct. 14. Two men entered a taxi at the Huntington Metro station and when they arrived at their destination, a group of men ran to the taxi and pulled the male driver, 46, from the cab. One man showed a handgun, and they demanded cash and assaulted him. The passengers participated in the robbery. The victim shouted for help and a witness called police. The robbers fled with cash. The victim was treated at the scene.

PARK TERRACE DR., 7200 block. Hubcaps and an emblem were stolen from a vehicle.

RICHMOND HWY., 6400 block. A radio was stolen from a vehicle.

RICHMOND HWY., 7700 block, Oct. 8. A man approached a 76-year-old woman outside a home improvement store and promised her a large sum of cash if she would provide $5,000 up front. The women refused until she saw another man appear to accept the offer and give up cash. The men went to the bank with the woman, where she withdrew cash from her

account and gave it to them. The woman

went back into the bank and when she returned, the men were gone. Five days later, on Oct. 14, two men posing as FBI agents went to the woman's house and said they needed her help in confirming that they had captured the men responsible for the scam. They persuaded her to withdraw another $5,000 from the bank and said they would call her in 30 minutes. When they didn't call, she called police.

CENTREVILLE AND COMPTON ROADS, 6:50 a.m. Oct. 18. A man pointed a revolver at a 23-year-old man during a traffic dispute. The victim called police, who found a 33-year-old Nokesville man and charged him with brandishing a firearm.

ARSON

LOWMOOR RD., 7700 block. A man broke into a residence and started a fire in the garage. The homeowner found the man near the garage, but the intruder fled while the owner was extinguishing the fire. Police found a 21-year-old man, of no fixed address, at a nearby shopping center and charged him with arson and burglary.

ASSAULTS

POHICK RD., 8500 block, 9:15 p.m. Oct. 19. A woman shot a male acquaintance in the leg during an argument. The male reportedly did not need hospitalization. A 42-year-old Springfield woman was charged with malicious wounding and discharging a firearm.

THEFTS/BREAK-INS

AMERICANA DR., 4700 block. A CD player was stolen from a vehicle.

BACKLICK RD., 7700 block, 3 a.m. Oct. 14. The owner of a business, armed with a handgun, confronted a man inside his business attempting to steal property. When police arrived, the man fled with another man who had been waiting outside. Police in a helicopter found two men hiding nearby and arrested them. An investigation revealed that they were in possession of a stolen car. A 20-year-old District man and a 21-year-old Dunn Loring man were charged with burglary, grand theft and possession of burglary tools.

BURKE COMMONS RD., 6000 block. A purse was stolen from a business.

OLD LEE HWY., 3200 block, 12:03 a.m. Oct. 15. A man behaving disorderly in the middle of a road pulled out a knife when police arrived. After refusing to put the knife down several times, the man dropped it. A 55-year-old

man of no fixed address was charged with

assaulting a police officer and disorderly conduct.

ARLINGTON BLVD., 9500 block, 8 p.m. Oct. 15. A man walked into a shoe store wearing brown shoes and fled wearing running shoes owned by the store. An employee unsuccessfully tried to stop him from leaving with the shoes.

BEVAN DR., 3700 block, Sept. 29 to Sept. 30. A bassoon was stolen from a music room at a middle school.

BRADWATER ST., 3800 block, Oct. 14 to Oct. 15. Two front-turn signals were stolen from a vehicle in front of a residence.

BRADWATER ST., 3900 block, Oct. 14 to Oct. 15. A car stereo and several CDs were stolen from a vehicle.

DEMOCRACY LANE, 10300 block, Oct. 14 to Oct. 15. Four vehicles in a parking lot were damaged, and an item was stolen from one.

LEE HWY., 9600 block, 12:44 a.m. Oct. 15. A man took a machine from a bar. When the manager of the business ran after the man, he put the machine down and fled.

LEE HWY., 10600 block, 7:30 a.m. to 3:11 p.m. Oct. 19. Stereos were stolen from three cars at a high school.

LEE HWY., 10600 block, Oct. 14 to Oct. 18. Several letters were stolen from a school sign at the rear entrance of a high school.

LEE HWY., 11000 block, 3:06 a.m. Oct. 14. Police received a call about a person breaking into a business. Police found a Fairfax man, 34, inside the business and charged him with burglary and destruction of property.

LEE HWY., 11000 block, 6:22 p.m. Oct. 13. A person stole several cartons of cigarettes from a pharmacy.

SAGER AVE., 10100 block, Oct. 13 to Oct. 15. A clarinet was stolen from the front porch of a residence.

WILSON BLVD., 6700 block, 1:12 p.m. Oct. 17. A man took his clothes off after asking a man in a parking lot for a cigarette. A 50-year-old man of no fixed address was charged with public nudity.

THEFTS/BREAK-INS

BROAD ST. E., 1000 block, 7:23 p.m. Oct. 13. A female juvenile attempted to conceal two gym bags under several garment bags on a baby stroller and leave a store. A 15-year-old girl was charged with shoplifting.

BROAD ST. W., 1100 block, 12:14 p.m. Oct. 17. A store employee confronted a man he had observed placing ink cartridges in his pants, and the man fled in a vehicle.

BROAD ST. W., 1100 block, 2 to 9:57 a.m. Oct. 15. An alarm was activated when a person attempted to force open a rear door of a business. Nothing was reported missing.

BROAD ST. W., 1100 block, midnight Oct. 11 to 5:39 a.m. Oct. 12. Merchandise was stolen from a business entered by breaking a front glass door with a brick.

GUNDRY DR., 300 block, 1:35 a.m. Oct. 13 to 2:53 p.m. Oct. 14. Cash and CDs were stolen from an unlocked vehicle.

LEESBURG PIKE, 7100 block, 5 p.m. Oct. 13 to 12:13 p.m. Oct. 15. A flute was stolen after it was accidentally left in a school bus.

PARK AVE., 300 block, 10 a.m. Oct. 13. A woman took a man's coat from a seat in the courtroom in City Hall. The woman pulled a cell phone from the coat and placed it in bushes outside the courtroom. A 41-year-old woman of no fixed address was charged with grand theft and public drunkenness. All of the property was recovered.

WASHINGTON ST. N., 100 block, 11:59 p.m. Oct. 17 to 7:46 a.m. Oct. 18. A safe was stolen from an office in a restaurant, and cash was stolen from a cash drawer. An alarm at the business was turned off, and the office door was broken from its hinges.

VANDALISM

FLAGMAKER CT., 2800 block, 3 p.m. Oct. 13 to 9:18 a.m. Oct. 14. The steering column

and ignition of a 1993 Cadillac Seville was damaged, and the glove box was

ransacked.

WORLDGATE DR., 13000 block, 8:34 p.m. Oct. 15. A man struck an acquaintance. A 21-year-old Clinton, Md., man was charged with assault.

APRIL WAY, 1300 block, 7 p.m. Oct. 13. Jewelry, cash and other property were stolen from a residence.

ELDEN ST., 300 block, 12:33 p.m. Oct. 13. Two men took property from an unlocked vehicle. A 26-year-old Herndon man and a 22-year-old man of no fixed address were charged with grand theft and public drunkenness.

HERNDON PKWY., 500 block, 4:21 p.m. Oct. 13. A paycheck was stolen and cashed.

LYNN ST., 700 block, 1:33 p.m. Oct. 14. Two checks were forged and cashed.

TAMARACK WAY, 700 block, 10:47 p.m. Oct. 14. A person opened credit card accounts in another person's name and used them to make purchases.

VIRGINIA AVE., 400 block, 7:42 a.m. Oct. 16. License plates were stolen from two vehicles.

BRANCH RD. SE, 100 block, 6 p.m. Oct. 16 to 11:42 a.m. Oct. 17. A necklace was stolen from a jewelry store entered by breaking a window.

MAPLE AVE. E., 300 block, 11 p.m. Oct. 9

to 2 p.m. Oct. 10. Cash was stolen from

a cash box at a carwash in a service

station.

MAPLE AVE. W., 444 block, 2:23 p.m. Oct. 19. A deliveryman took food from a restaurant freezer. A 41-year-old Maryland man was charged with petty theft.

PATRICK ST. SE, 100 block, 3 to 3:50 p.m. Oct. 12. A cell phone was stolen from an unlocked car at an apartment building.

WALKER AND WARE STREETS SW, 11:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 16. A driver's license and a credit card were stolen from an unlocked vehicle at a park.

WEST ST. NW, 300 block, 10 a.m. Oct. 10 to 10 a.m. Oct. 17. Roofing materials were stolen from a garage of a residence. There was no sign of forced entry.

VANDALISM

MANVELL RD. SE, 200 block, 1 a.m. Oct. 17. Eggs and lunch meat were thrown at a residence and a vehicle parked there.
