What do you think is the most urgent problem facing your jurisdiction?

"Public education's most urgent issue is how to identify and address every student's cognitive, emotional and behavioral needs. Under federal law, student performance is grouped and reported by poverty, ethnicity, language or disability. One hundred percent of those student groups won't achieve academic success unless we can motivate, engage and support each individual student. When improving the 'average' is our only goal, we mask the poor performance of too many students. Failing to help them become productive members of society diminishes the quality of life for those children and for all of us. Nothing is more urgent than educating every child."

Why should voters elect you?

"My reelection guarantees voters a representative who has proven her thoughtfulness, effectiveness and leadership in making decisions in the interest of every child's future."

What do you think is the most urgent problem facing your jurisdiction?

"MCPS needs to focus more efforts on the disparity of test scores for students from different ethnic backgrounds and economic groups. MCPS's efforts in parent and community outreach have been historically weak. Community input is often ignored at the arbitrary decision of the school superintendent. MCPS needs to increase its efforts to improve the home-school connection whereby parents or guardians are actively engaged to participate in their children's education."

Why should voters elect you?

"I have the skill to review MCPS's budgets and program plans. I have the education and necessary experience to oversight MCPS's management, operations and performance."
