8 Birds Confiscated From Trailer
CHANTILLY AREA, Transworld Ave., 14500 block. Police investigated an open door at an unoccupied trailer and determined that the home had not been burglarized. However, they found 14 exotic birds, some in cages. Bird feces was on the floor. Eight birds that needed medical attention were taken to the county shelter. The birds' owner, a 48-year-old woman, was charged with not performing the duties of an owner and having unsanitary conditions.
Leashed Dog Bites Teenager
LORTON AREA, Lorton Station Blvd., 8900 block, 4 p.m. Oct. 20. A leashed, big gray dog bit a 16-year-old girl on the elbow. The dog was being walked by a woman with a smaller blond dog, also leashed. The woman said the gray dog had been vaccinated but refused to give her name. The girl was taken to a doctor. Anyone with information about the dog or the woman is asked to call police at 703-691-2131.
Dog Chases Rabid Raccoon
VIENNA AREA, Black Stallion Pl., 8400 block. A dog chased a raccoon, which ran up a tree. The raccoon was caught and euthanized and tested positive for rabies. The dog, which had a current rabies vaccination, was quarantined at home.

Sparrow Trapped in Tall Room
MCCARTY CREST CT., 10000 block, Oct. 26. A sparrow fell down a chimney and flew near vaulted ceilings in a residence. It tried to fly out tall windows, which could not be opened. A resident and an animal control officer used a butterfly net and extension poles to capture the bird, which was released outside.
