Veterans Day Closings

In observance of Veterans Day next Thursday, Howard County government offices, courts, libraries and the animal shelter will be closed. Regular trash and recycling pickup will remain in effect, and the landfill will be open. Parking meter regulations will be enforced.

HCC Career Fair Tomorrow

Howard Community College will host its annual Fall Job and Career Fair from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. tomorrow in the Burrill Galleria on campus, 10901 Little Patuxent Pkwy., Columbia.

Representatives of employers in the following areas will be present: accounting and finance, administrative support, computer and information services, counseling, teaching, social work, engineering, health and nursing, hospitality, management administration, military services, police and security, retail and sales and marketing.

Thanksgiving Reservations

Reservations for the Howard County Office on Aging's Thanksgiving celebration can be made from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. today and tomorrow at the Florence Bain Senior Center, 5470 Ruth Keeton Way, Columbia.

The annual event will be Nov. 17 at the Ten Oaks Ballroom in Clarksville. It will include music by the duo In Harmony and an appearance by County Executive James N. Robey (D).

The first seating is at 10:30 a.m., with a noon luncheon. The second seating will begin at 4 p.m., with a 5:30 dinner. Tickets cost $8 per person, and payment is due by Nov. 10. For more information, call 410-313-7213.

Performing Artists Sought

The Howard County Arts Council is accepting applications from artists for its annual Performing Arts Showcase, presented in partnership with the state and county departments of recreation and parks.

The showcase acts as an audition program for school and civic organizations to identify performing artists for workshops, performances, demonstrations and in-school residencies.

The event will be March 3 and 4 at the Howard County Center for the Arts in Ellicott City. To receive an application, which is due Nov. 12, call the arts council at 410-313-2787.
