Rabies Found in Cat at Complex

ROCKVILLE, Twinbrook Pkwy., 12000 block, Oct. 12. A female resident of an apartment complex was scratched on the hand by a stray kitten and called Animal Services. An officer responded with a trap and saw several cats around the complex. A few days later an adult gray-and-white cat was trapped and taken to a veterinary hospital because it appeared ill. The veterinarian determined that the cat showed signs of rabies, and it was euthanized. The animal tested positive for rabies. Animal Services notified the apartment complex manager and posted notices in the area to alert the public of the potential for rabies exposure. The woman scratched by the kitten was undergoing rabies exposure shots.
