Slain man identified: Yesterday, Prince George's County police identified a man slain late Wednesday in Hyattsville as Adrien Johnson, 36, of the 600 block of Charante Court in Glen Burnie.

Police said they found Johnson shot and unconscious in the 3800 block of Powhatan Street about 10:20 p.m. He was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

No other details about the homicide were released yesterday.

Girl raped: A teenage girl was raped yesterday in her home in the Colesville area of Montgomery County, county police said.

They said the girl came home from school to find a man wearing a mask in the house. Police said she was taken to a hospital for an examination.

The suspect was described as 5-foot-5 to 5-foot-7, with a stocky build. He wore a blue and white plaid shirt, khaki pants and a black mask that had holes cut out for the eyes.


Hit-and-run sentence: A Centreville man who struck a pedestrian in the Fair Lakes area in April, severing his lower left arm and fracturing his skull, was sentenced yesterday to seven months in jail by a Fairfax County Circuit Court judge.

Edward C. Sliter, 22, pleaded guilty in September to felony hit and run. On April 24, his car swerved off Lee Highway near the Fairfax County Parkway and struck Christopher Pinkerton, 32, of Barboursville, W.Va.

Fairfax Circuit Court Judge Jonathan C. Thacher asked Sliter if he had been drinking or smoking marijuana that night, and Sliter said no. Thacher imposed a four-year sentence, then suspended all but seven months.

Officers fired on: Two men running from Springfield Mall security officers drew weapons, and one fired two shots at the officers Thursday afternoon, but no one was struck, Fairfax County police said yesterday. The men escaped.

The two security officers had confronted the men about 4:30 p.m. in the shopping center because they were yelling at others and creating a disturbance. The men ran from the mall and the officers gave chase, police said. Once outside, one man pulled a handgun from his waistband, and the other man drew a long knife. After firing the shots, the men fled behind Franconia Road.

Bank robbed: An armed man held up a Sterling bank yesterday morning and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash, the Loudoun County sheriff's office said.

Sheriff's deputies responded at 11:07 a.m. to an alarm at Provident Bank in the 4600 block of Harry Byrd Highway. When they arrived 12 minutes later, witnesses told them that a man wearing a black mask had approached the counter with a handgun and demanded cash before fleeing on foot, Lt. Col. Ronald Gibson said.

Officials are searching for the suspect, whom they described as 6-feet-tall and weighing about 170 pounds. Witnesses said he had on a black jacket and blue pants.
